‘Any chance was lost at the start’ – Beaten Cheltenham Festival horses to follow

It’s always sad when the Cheltenham Festival ends and we have to wait another year for it to return, but many will already be planning for 2027. There are plenty of talking points to come out of this year’s Festival and it’s fair to say that there lots of hard luck stories. Some horses just failed to fire as well, which is often the case, but we’ve selected some beaten horses who could be worth keeping on side. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

No Drama This End

Paul Nicholls drew a blank at the Festival and his best chance going into the race appeared to be No Drama This End. The exciting novice hurdler looked set to go close in the Turners. Any chance of winning was lost at the start of the race however, and Harry Cobden decided straight away that looking after him was the best option. He’ll be a chaser next season and will win plenty of races in that sphere.

Amen Kate

Thomas Cooper’s mare was another who had no chance from the start and had to suffer from that point on. She raced wide throughout and had to expend a significant amount of energy to get back into the race. Jack Kennedy managed to get her into a dangerous position at one point but she couldn’t sustain her challenge for obvious reasons. This mare will be winning more races sooner rather than later.

Karbau

The County Hurdle can be a messy race at the best of times but Karbau was never going to launch a serious challenge from his starting position. Willie Mullins’ gelding was repeatedly denied a clear run and did very well to keep on for sixth under the circumstances. There will be other days for him and perhaps Aintree or Punchestown could be on the agenda.
