Harry Swann is one of Ireland’s top amateurs at the moment and regularly gets bumper rides for the likes of Gigginstown and Gordon Elliott. Fairyhouse has been a happy hunting ground for him so far this season, as both of his rides there managed to win. He’s going to attempt to defend his unbeaten record with one ride at the track on Wednesday so we’re going to take a closer look at the horse’s chances. Detroit Maverick represents the Gordon Elliott yard and the six-year-old had three starts in point-to-points before joining Elliott. Struggling somewhat in his first couple of starts, he was a well beaten sixth on debut at Boulta and followed that up with a 26-length fourth at Lingstown.
The son of Flemensfirth took a big step forward to get off the mark with a comfortable victory at Ballyknock. It’s worth noting that the third went on to win next time and has since joined Willie Mullins. Detroit Maverick saw the trip out well to score by three lengths and that suggests the engine is there.
Willie Mullins runs The Wager and he will be popular, after finishing second on debut at Punchestown back in February and that form looks solid. Moments Away was second on debut at Ballinrobe and shouldn’t be dismissed either.
Elliott is winless from his last 27 runners which could be a slight concern but he had been in cracking form prior to that. He already has 17 bumper winners in Ireland this season and it would be no surprise if this horse was to add to that tally.
