Amateur jockey Alex Chadwick has already had an incredible season with 18 winners on the board under rules, and he is unbeaten at Fakenham this season too, winning on both rides at the track this term. He has teamed up with James Owen with one ride at the track on Friday so let’s take a look at the horse in more detail.
Chadwick had a very good season last term, netting 11 winners, but with 18 on the board already this season, he will be full of confidence. He will take the ride on Escapologist in the opening 2m4f novices’ hurdle for trainer James Owen, and he has solid claims.
The six-year-old son of It’s Gino had three starts for Joe Ponting without success, but he got the better of the reopposing Aviation when scoring in a maiden hurdle over course and distance last month.
Lucy Wadham’s Aviation was sent off joint-favourite with him on the day and was beaten only half a length, so they will be confident they can reverse the form with Escapologist from 7lb better terms on this occasion.
Nonetheless, Escapologist always seemed to have enough in the locker despite the small winning margin, and there’s every chance he can take another step forward given it was his first start for the stable.
James Owen also has a terrific record at Fakenham this season. In fact, he is the leading trainer here by far this season with 10 winners on the board from 27 runners, five more than his nearest challenger and with an impressive strike-rate of 37 per cent. It would be no surprise if this horse won again.
