It has been a great couple of weeks for the ITV Racing Outsiders column. Hopefully you followed the 12-1, 12-1 and 10-1 winners advised on the column in the last two weeks.
We have the Aintree Festival to look forward to this week and the big race of the week is of course the Grand National. A cracking card is taking place on Thursday though so here’s my 33-1, 18-1 and 16-1 outsider tips for day one.
It is interesting that Patrick Mullins has picked up the ride on the Sara Bradstock-trained Myth Buster. Patrick, who has never won this race will certainly be looking to break his duck off the back of winning the Cheltenham equivalent on Billaway. Formerly trained by Henry de Bromhead, this horse won at the first time of asking for his new yard when hammering Soldier Of Love at Musselburgh in February. He is not to be underestimated.
Sky Pirate flopped in the Grand Annual at Cheltenham last month but the ground was heavy on the day and he never got going on it. Back on proper spring ground at Aintree, we should see him bounce back to form. He was placed off marks of 159 and 157 already this season so even though he has the burden of top weight, he could be well treated off just 153.
This promises to be a belter of a bumper but I am going to side with Neil Mulholland’s Girlofmydreams at a hefty price. It may have only been a weak enough race at Plumpton that she won on debut but she travelled like a dream throughout that day and I think a flat track will suit her. Obviously, she needs to take another giant step forward but she has a lot of potential.
