Aintree Grand National tips: Adrian Wall’s 66-1, 28-1 and 20-1 outsider plays

We are just a day away from the most famous race on earth, the Aintree Randox Grand National. A staggering 40 runners will go to post for the 4m 2f 74y marathon event but only one horse can take all the glory.

I have only backed two National winners in my lifetime. The first of those was Numbersixvalverde who won for Martin Brassil at odds of 11-1 back in 2006.

The other was One For Arthur who won me a nice few quid when I backed him at around 25-1 in 2017. That was a great day for northern racing and I certainly enjoyed my few pints of Arthur Guinness that evening.

I have had a lot of big priced places in the race and below are my three at good prices that are worth an each-way play. Make sure you check out our runner-by-runner guide for the big race and you can also view the official myracing Grand National tips.

Anibale Fly (28-1)

Classy chaser at his best with some unbelievable form in the book. Beaten just two lengths into second by Al Boum Photo in the 2019 Cheltenham Gold Cup. Travelled to Aintree a few weeks later and finished 5th in the Grand National off a mark of 164 and was 4th the year prior. Runs off 155 here so if he can bring his best form to the table, he won’t be far away.

Potters Corner (20-1)

This boy certainly won’t lack in the stamina department so if he gets a clear round he has a massive chance. The 11-year-old won the Welsh National in December 2019 after winning the Midlands National earlier that year. He hasn’t been in much form yet this term but it is clear that they have been saving him for the big day.

Blaklion (66-1)

This is a huge leap of faith but I am hoping that the change of scenery will bring out a huge run in the old boy. Now a 12-year-old, he will run off a featherweight of just 10 stone 2 pounds. This is just his 4th start for Dan Skelton and he travelled well for a long way over an inadequate trip at Newbury last month. A former winner of the Becher Chase and 4th in this race previously, the former Grade 1 winner is not to be underestimated.
