‘Cheekpieces go on and he should take beating’ – Adrian Wall’s best bets for Down Royal
We have action from Down Royal to look forward to again on Tuesday as we get ever closer to the major February and spring festivals. Adrian Wall has provided his best bets at Down Royal Racecourse, including Spinola Bay who can bring up the hat-trick under Jack Kennedy.
1.20 Down Royal
Gordon Elliott has won the last two runnings of this 2m1f novice hurdle, and Spinola Bay can bring up the hat-trick under Jack Kennedy. The 6yo is a perfect 2-2 in handicaps this season, winning a good race at Leopardstown’s Christmas festival and led for most of the way when third at Cork on latest. Cheekpieces now go on and he should take some beating.
2.20 Down Royal
Kingdom Calling sprang a 250/1 shock at Listowel in 2024 and although he hasn’t won since, he was far from disgraced here last time when seventh of 20 over course and distance, short of room before three out. He could hit the frame from 1lb lower.
2.50 Down Royal
Koori Star was well beaten at Fairyhouse six days ago but his prior run over much further in a Navan handicap hurdle was full of promise and he wasn’t disgraced in a hot novice chase at Galway in October. He has work to do but isn’t out of this one bit.
3.20 Down Royal
Warm In Gorey has generally been very consistent over fences and although not involved when brought down three out over hurdles at Leopardstown last month, he is a big danger back over larger obstacles. Tiernan Power-Roche is one of the best claimers in the business and he will take off a valuable 5lb, and he is off a very fair mark as it stands.
