There’s a little something to cater to every racing fan’s taste on Saturday with Musselburgh’s first Flat meeting of the year, and their feature race is the Listed Goliath Cup Stakes. Haydock also hosts a thoroughly competitive National Hunt card which includes the Middle Distance Veterans’ Chase final. Nine races from across the two fixtures will be live on ITV so we’ve picked out three more outsiders with substantial chances. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Marche d’Aligre (14/1, bet365) was a winner on the Flat in France and the five-year-old was a promising juvenile hurdler last term. He won a maiden at Wetherby in good style and went on to finish second in a Grade 2 at Chepstow after that. His best handicap form suggests he should be well treated off this sort of mark and a return to form shouldn’t be ruled out.
Lord Baddesley (33/1, bet365) struggled in really bad ground at Warwick last time out and the handicapper has dropped him 2lb since. Anthony Honeyball’s veteran will appreciate the return to quicker ground and he bolted up off just a 4lb higher mark at Newbury back in November. The son of Doyen looks ready for a return to form sooner rather than later.
Rhythm N Hooves (16/1, bet365) has been performing consistently on the all-weather in the last few months but his last success came on the turf at Newbury in August. Robert Cowell’s runner wasn’t disgraced when fourth at Southwell last time out. Now down to a 1lb lower mark, he should be capable of getting even closer.
