It’s an exciting time of year for racing and there’s loads going on this week. That includes the Breeders’ Cup, which takes place at Del Mar on Friday and Saturday. It’s America’s premier racing carnival and Team Europe will be sending over another strong squad this year.
Friday’s card offers up five Grade 1 juvenile races and Aidan O’Brien will be represented in all three of the turf races. True Love (10/3, Betfred) has maintained a high level of form throughout the season, despite failing to win her first two starts. She finished second in a Listed contest on debut and filled the same spot behind stablemate Gstaad at Navan after that.
The daughter of No Nay Never was backed into favouritism for the Group 2 Queen Mary at Royal Ascot and duly obliged, coming out on top by a length-and-a-quarter. An impressive victory over subsequent two-time Group 1 winner Puerto Rico then followed, before finishing second in the Phoenix Stakes.
Returning to winning ways in the Cheveley Park Stakes last time out, she’s easily the best of the European candidates. Dropping back to 5f shouldn’t be a problem, especially if there’s a fast pace, as her proven stamina will be a very useful weapon.
Her current price appears to offer some value, as it would be no surprise to see her go off at much shorter. There’s plenty to like about this filly’s profile and a huge run could be on the cards.
