Monday was a huge day for Tattersalls Ireland as the people behind Caldwell Construction Ltd sold all their horses. One particularly notable horse that fetched a record price went to bloodstock agent Anthony Bromley for a massive €740,000.
The horse in question was purchased for a consortium which includes Sir Alex Ferguson and is set to go to Paul Nicholls. Currently 20-1 for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle in March, this horse is already a winner at Grade 1 level. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Caldwell Potter had made an excellent start to his career in the hands of Gordon Elliott. Elliott, who did bid for this horse, will undoubtedly be disappointed to lose such a promising prospect. His loss is Paul Nicholls’ gain and the Ditcheat-based trainer will be very excited about this recent development.
This horse really could be anything and he was an impressive winner of a Grade 1 novice hurdle at Leopardstown over Christmas. He kept on powerfully to get the better of Predators Gold over two miles and possess plenty of potential. The front two were well clear of the rest that day and there should be plenty more to come from the winner.
It remains to be seen if he ends up at the Cheltenham Festival, as there’s not a lot of time for him to get used to his new surroundings. The Festival is fast approaching and it’s possible that he could be aimed at Aintree instead.
One thing is for sure, this record purchase is massive news. There will be lofty expectations every time Caldwell Potter runs and it’s easy to see why.
