As we predicted earlier in the week Mark Johnson will be sending Delizia (14/1) here as the Dark Angel filly looks to win her third race of the 2015 season. After winning her maiden at Wolverhampton she impressed when taking a Listed race over the minimum trip of five furlongs here at York before finding is all a bit too much at Royal Ascot when finishing mid division behind Nunthorpe Stakes favourite Acapulco in the Queen Mary Stakes, again over the minimum trip.  On breeding she should find this sixth furlong within her reach and may allow her to settle before coming with a run under Silvestre De Sousa, and she is certainly one to consider for a place at least. On all known form the one they all have to beat (especially with the stable coming in to plenty of winners in the past week or so), is the William Haggas trained Tasleet (7/4) who has also won a maiden and a Listed race, and was second to the very classy Shalaa in the Group Two Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. In theory, there is nothing of that calibre here (though with the prize money on offer you can’t be sure), making him the one to be on with Paul Hanagan in the saddle, who proves week after week that he is worth a few extra pounds on whichever horse he is riding.

Richard Hannon is still a trainer to watch in this sort of event, but is yet to win this race (even his father only won it the once in the last ten years), but he sends the filly Orvar (13/2) here, and she would certainly have a decent chance with Pat Dobbs in the saddle with no Richard Hughes to call upon. . After winning her Salisbury maiden first time out, she was sixth in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot over the minimum trip and then fifth to Shalaa at Newmarket in the Group Two July Stakes, form which would in theory mean she cannot beat Tasleet who finished a lot closer to the winner when they met. Dropped in class last time out, presumably as a confidence booster, that plan failed as well as she was beaten a neck by William Haggas’ Raucous, and she will need to improve to get on terms here if she want to get involved in the finish.  Looking for two less exposed two year olds to round things off, and the booking of James Doyle to ride Projection (7/1) for Roger Charlton really catches the eye.  A son of Acclamation he was as green as grass first time out at Windsor where he jinked at the start and came to a virtual standstill but he showed the benefit of that run when winning his maiden at the same track from Noble Peace, without needing to be asked a serious question. Just the sort hi s trainer does well with, we can all expect further improvement again this afternoon, and he is pretty high on our early short list as we await the final line up. If you want a real outsider here how about the once raced Mickey (66/1), still a maiden but allegedly held in pretty high regard by trainer Tom Dascombe. On form, no chance whatsoever but as a rumour, good fun to very small stakes but on form he will have to improve about two stone so who knows where he will find that from?
