This is an interesting maiden over 1m 4f, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: A chance is taken on TOUWARI who makes his racecourse debut in this. He’s obviously shown plenty at home having risen a fair amount in value from a yearling to 2 and this is a winnable race. Agathonia is an obvious threat but connections are already reaching for cheekpieces whilst the well-related Eyesight is of interest at a bigger price.
EYESIGHT – Half-brother to a few decent sorts who were fairly straightforward individuals. His dam was a winner at 3, with two victories over 7 furlongs and his overall profile suggests he could be ready first time out. The yard have a 16% strike rate rate and they have been slightly quiet of late but it’ll be interesting to see how he fares on debut. Wears a visor first time out and stall 8 isn’t ideal.
FORWARD CONTRACT – 45,000GNS purchase as a yearling out of an un-raced dam. He has plenty of stamina on both sides of his pedigree and is likely to appreciate every yard of this trip. Robert Winston is an interesting booking (19% strike rate last 14 days) and Hughie Morrison does well with these types so he’s worth a second look in the betting. May just need this first run though and the percentage call is to oppose him.
PHYSICIST – Nicely-bred horse by Galileo out of a mare who was an average sort on the flat in Ireland over a mile and two furlongs. He travelled with promise on his initial racecourse debut at Pontefract last October which shouldn’t turn out to be a bad bit of form and much more is expected with that experience under his belt. He’s been gelded over the winter and the yard are in fine form with a 40% strike rate in the past fortnight. Respected.
TOUWARI – Jumped in value from 25,000GNS as a yearling to 130,000 Euros as a 2yo. He’s a colt by Teofilo out an un-raced mare. He’s a full brother to a couple of smart sorts in Paene Magnus and Mainicin and John Gosden is a master with these sorts. He’s blinkered first time out which is slightly unusual and it’ll be interesting to see how much market support arrives for him, making his debut here at Lingfield. Respected.
TRISTRAM – Once-raced gelding who out-ran his odds of 20/1 on debut when only beaten 1 1/4 lengths over a mile at Lingfield. He’s by Sinndar so the step up in trip should suit and this yard are capable of sending out maiden winners having been in decent enough form of late. One of the likelier winners of this with race fitness and course experience under his belt. Respected.
AGATHONIA – Spent last year as a bridesmaid finishing runner on on three occasions. Her overall form means she sets the standard in this off a mark of 77 and connections apply cheekpieces for the first time in order to straighten her out and aid her in the finish. She’s likely to be extremely popular in the betting again today (9/1, 4/1, 2/1 SP’s to date) and it’ll be interesting to see how much progression there is over an extra 4 furlongs.
LADY MARITIME – Improved plenty for her second start to date when stepped up in trip at Lingfield. She was sent off 50/1 that day and had no chance with an easy winner but showed enough to suggest that this extra distance will suit. May find this tougher than her last assignment and she will receive a mark after today so perhaps best watched until switched to handicaps.
TAPDANCEALLTHEWAY – Finished ahead of Lady Maritime by a head having stayed on nicely in the closing stages. She’s another that should appreciate the extra trip and there should be more to come for a yard that has an excellent 20% strike rate at Lingfield. May find one or two too good here but she deserves a market check and she is well-bred (by Nathaniel).
