Eight horses go to post for the feature at Lingfield today, a Class 3 Fillies’ handicap worth £10,397 to the winner. Read on for our expert’s thoughts and betting tips.
IN SUMMARY: SUMMER ICON has done well to come back from a career threatening injury and after two good runs at this track recently she is taken to get back on the winning trail now back at 7f. She will find these conditions more to her liking after tiring over 1m last time and this strong traveller could take plenty of beating. Notte Illuminata cost connections a fair bit and she could do more than win kindly on her first start for Karl Burke. She is also interesting dropped to 7f and she is taken to chase the selection despite this being a big step up in grade.
Summer Icon – Consistent filly by Sixties Icon who has been placed on her last two visits to this track after a break of 193 days (severed a tendon) including a third over Course & Distance in November and a runner up finish on her last start behind the highly thought of Somethingthrilling from David Elsworths’ yard last month. Entered handicaps on a mark of 90 after a good win in a big field Class 5 maiden at Newmarket (Good/Firm) in May and 3lb lower for that now having had three runs since. Drop in trip a big plus for this given how she tired over further last time out and big chance of going one better today.
Bint Dandy – Likes the All Weather with five career wins but hasn’t won in her last twenty eight runs since winning a Class 4 event at Chelmsford in March 2015 and still 5lb above her last winning mark. Been well beaten in Class 2 handicaps since October and dropped back to this grade was only fourth behind Somethingthrilling from David Elsworths’ yard last month (Summer Icon second) from a mark of 90 – a run well below her highest rating of 95. Plenty to find against Mick Channon’s filly now and has been well beaten on her last two starts over Course & Distance. Can be ruled out today.
Rebel Surge – Been largely consistent in eight runs (form figures of 45434235) since a well beaten twelfth of a 21 runner Listed contest at Ascot (Soft) in June from a career high RPR of 93. Has finished fourth and third over Course and Distance in that time including when fifth of 11 on her last start forty days ago. She was unusually quick out the gates last time which is unlikely to suit in this with plenty of quicker rivals around and with only a Class 5 maiden win to her name she is likely to prove vulnerable with some progressive looking rivals in this line up.
Russian Radiance – Back to back winner of Class 5 events at Wolverhampton in Autumn 2015 achieving a mark of 81 in the process. Has been largely out of form since but did perform with credit over 1m at this course behind the smart looking Somethingthrilling three starts ago. Well beaten off a career high mark of 84 the last twice including over Course and Distance two starts ago at the end of November. Has the same mark today and likely to struggle again despite her promising rider’s 5lb claim, given her distinct lack of pace is bound to be a hindrance against some speedier rivals.
Dutch Mist – Four time winner on turf achieving a rating of 92 after three progressive wins up to Class 3 level and two fair efforts in Group 3 company in 2015. Struggled off higher marks following that but managed to score at Pontefract in June having dropped back down to a mark of 80. Handicapper looked to have her measure following that with form figures of 2444 before finishing ninth of 10 on her last start at Newbury in October. Makes her Polytrack debut today and still 3lb above her last winning mark. Has plenty to prove at present despite her trainer having a profit of £18.76 to a level stake when only having one runner at a flat meeting in the last five years.
Rio’s Cliffs – Two wins in twelve career starts and has been in consistent form recently albeit in minor events, with the most recent coming at Kempton last month in a Class 5 race with a field of five runners. Won in good style that day and Martyn Meade has a solid profit of £14.43 from a level stake when having a sole runner at a flat meeting since 2011 but will need a career best to win this from a mark of 80 and others preferred today.
Make Music – Two time Course and Distance winner of Class 5 events in June, once on the turf and once on the All Weather. Followed up with a below form fourth of 9 sent into Class 4 company in an apprentice event at Chester (Soft) a month later and has been off the track since. Didn’t run so well after a break of four months when returning to the track last April but should have more to give from an unchanged mark of 80 and this prominent racer is interesting especially if the market speaks in her favour.
Notte Illuminata – Previously trained in France where she had one run for H A Pantall and subsequently bought by her connections for 165,000 Euros. Justified market support when a 1¾ length winner at Newcastle last month over 1m. This is much tougher now sent into Class 3 company but her trainer has a decent profit of £13.46 to a level stake since the start of the 2013 season and interesting if the money comes for her now she is dropped to 7f. Player.
