This has the look of a decent Beginner’s Chase with a few nice types on show. Read on for our experts’ thoughts and betting tips.
IN SUMMARY: Call The Cops will be all the rage given he was a winner at Cheltenham last year and is interesting on his Chase debut. JOIN THE CLAN however made a pleasing debut over fences at Fakenham 2 weeks ago. Undone by the way the race panned out that day, he should be wiser here and will give the likely favourite a lot to think about with another clear round of jumping. He could be tough to beat in this.
1 Call The Cops – Very smart Hurdler in his day winning the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham in 2015. Had only been seen out twice last season over Hurdles and was well behind in both. Only 11th of 14 on seasonal debut last month but will improve for that and hopes will be high he can make the transition to fences.
2 Herefordshire – Gelding by Beneficial who won over Points on his second attempt in April before joining the yard of Kerry Lee. Dam was un-raced but out of a sister to useful staying Hurdler/Chaser Be My Belle. This is a tough assignment on first start but is of interest for a yard going well.
3 Join The Clan – Decent Hurdler last season without ever winning but won back-to-back Handicap Hurdles at the start of 2015. Made seasonal debut over fences 15 days ago, going down by a neck to the well-backed favourite form the David Dennis yard. That was encouraging and can get his nose in front here.
4 Pearl Swan – Previously trained by Paul Nicholls, winning only once at Taunton in 2012. Two starts over fences last Autumn amounted to nothing but was a decent second on seasonal re-appearance at Southwell 15 days ago and should come on for that but may find his work cut out by the front two in the market.
5 West Wizard – Previously with Nicky Henderson and showed decent form last year winning at Kempton in May. Moved to Nigel Twiston-Davies’ yard after that and didn’t show much in two runs there. Now with Paul Morgan and hard to know what to expect now. Can be overlooked for now.
6 Hurricane’s Girl – Showed promise in three Hurdles for Jonjo O’Neill in 2014/15. Hasn’t been seen under Rules since but has won in Points. Best watched on debut for James Evans.
