One favourite and one joint favourite in the last ten years so a bit of a punters’ graveyard but no other statistics leap off the page that can be of any assistance. Roger Varian took this last season with Princess Loulou and will bid for a follow up with Dawn Of Hope (10/1) who will have Andrea Atzeni in the saddle looking to steer the daughter of Mastercraftsman to the front where it matters to win her third race on her sixth start. After winning a Class Three Conditions Stakes on her seasonal return in April she was off all summer until returning in Listed class at Newmarket over this trip where she finished a one paced fifth, beaten close to six lengths at the line and although she may well strip a bit fitter now she does look to have a little bit more to find.

Meanwhile, the amiable Marco Botti links up again with Adam Kirby as he looks for another win from Aljazzi (10/1 Each Way) who is very lightly raced and could well improve further. There was no disgrace in finishing tenth in the Group One 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and has only race twice since with a Listed lass win over a mile from the very highly regarded Mix And Mingle before travelling to Gowran Park in Ireland to finish fourth to Duchess Andorra in a group three, making this as drop in class. Left with a bit too much to do that day she races on a quicker surface now which will help her get the trip and if kept nearer to the pace we can see her putting in a huge run this afternoon.

On official ratings Maleficent Queen (16/1) is the best horse in the race and Keith Dalgleish will certainly be expecting a big run from his four-year-old. Five runs this season have seen two wins including one over this trip in this class at Ayr back in May while has last run van be pretty much ignored when stepped up to a mile and a half in the Group One Champion Fillies and Mares at Ascot where he was stepped up too far in both trip and class. This is more her style though the going may be a little quicker than she would prefer to be seen at her best.

We have been waiting patiently all season for the return to action of David Simcock’s Chinoiseries (25/1) who won her maiden first time out over a mile at Chepstow before finishing fifth at Pontefract in a Listed race and being put away for the winter. That was on the 19^th October 2015 and she hasn’t been seen on the track in over a year now so although we cannot possibly suggest backing her under those circumstances, we can suggest a watching brief to see if she does retain her abilities for future reference.

At these weights  John Gosden’s Lady Of Camelot (17/2) comes out as the most likely winner on the ratings and with Robert Havlin booked to ride she ought to go well at the very least. Despite her high rating she has only won a single race from seven starts but has run well enough in defeat to suggest she can take a hand this afternoon, though she will need to build considerably on her thirteen length eighth at Newbury in the Group Three St Simon Stakes though that was over a mile and a half, and she ought to be a whole lot happier back at this trip.

Last but not least and we have the William Haggas trained Entsar (5/1) who is officially outclassed but is improving fast and cannot be ignored. She took a while for the penny to drop before taking a ten furlong maiden at Lingfield and followed that in a class four handicap with a very easy two and a half length victory. Now rated 95 she needs to improve again to get competitive here but could well do just that for a yard who can do very little wrong this season.
