IN SUMMARY: CAPRI is a worthy short-priced favourite after his Listed success last month and could have an very good future ahead of him. Exemplar impressed in a Galway maiden three weeks ago and, after Capri, could be the second best of Aidan O’Brien’s quartet of runners.
1 Capri – Delivered on debut promise when comfortable winner of Galway maiden (8.5f, yielding) in July and confirmed he’s a very exciting colt when following-up in Listed company at Tipperary (7.5f, soft) last month; an obvious one for the shortlist.
2 Eagle Spirit – Ran to a useful level when winning his maiden at Leopardstown (1m, good) in June but was soundly beaten when tackling Group 3 company over 7f there the following month and needs to display a jolt of improvement to land this prize.
3 Escape Clause – Out of a half-sister to a Listed winner and needed only to be pushed out to score at Listowel (7f, heavy) on recent debut; it’s hard to be exciting by that bare form but it’s impossible to gauge the limit of his ability at this stage.
4 Exemplar – Half-brother to 1,000 Guineas winner Blue Bunting and produced good performance to win Galway maiden (8.5f, soft) by 5l this month; jockey bookings suggest he’s not the stable’s main hope, but it’s very difficult to rule him out.
5 Firey Speech – Won twice in July, more recently in good-quality nursery at the Galway festival (7f, good), and bettered that form when runner-up (albeit no match for winner) in Group 3 event at Leopardstown (1m, good) a fortnight ago; ought to be on the premises here too. (NON RUNNER)
6 Latin Beat – Out of a half-sister to Derby winner Dr Devious; had to work quite hard to make winning debut at Tipperary (7.5f, soft) this month but the clear second subsequently reached the frame in Group 1 company and this colt almost certainly has more to offer.
7 Yucatan – Out of a Breeders’ Cup Mile winner and improved upon low-key debut when winning C&D maiden last month; won that race with more in hand than the narrow margin might suggest but still needs to improve quite a bit to play a part at this level.
myracing Forecast Prices: 10/11 Capri, 9/2 Exemplar, Firey Speech, 8/1 Yucatan, 12/1 Latin Beat, 16/1 Escape Clause, 33/1 Eagle Spirit
