This is the Greenlands Stakes, raced over 6 furlongs, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: There could be some value in opposing Acapulco today at a short price now she steps up in grade. SUEDOIS looks like the best bet against her at a tasty price following his seasonal reappearance at York and he will improve plenty for that run. He’s got lots of Group One form to his name and he can take this in conditions he’s sure to love. Blue De Vega could give him the most to think about.
1 BLUE DE VEGA – Attempted to make all on his seasonal reappearance and he was caught close home to finish second by a length. He’s dropped back in trip to 6 furlongs for the first time today which is an interesting move given he’s looked best over 7 furlongs in his career to date. Connections apply a first time tongue tie today and he enters calculations for a yard that have been in hot form of late (30% strike rate in the past fortnight).
2 DOWNFORCE – Took his form to a new level on his seasonal reappearance when he absolutely hacked up in a Listed event at Cork. He couldn’t follow that effort up on better ground over 5 furlongs next time out and the underfoot conditions may just have gone against him here given his best form has been on Soft and Heavy ground. He’s got a few questions to answer now upped in grade and it may pay to look elsewhere.
3 GORDON LORD BYRON – Continues to run well at the grand age of 9 and he was only beaten 1 1/4 lengths at Leopardstown in a Group 3 earlier this month. He’s dropped back in trip today and he may just find things happening too quickly here, especially on this fast ground. He looks vulnerable to a few of his opponents today and he’s worth taking on today given he’s without a win in 10 attempts on Good to Firm ground.
4 MOBSTA – Ran a fine race at York just 10 days ago to finish fourth behind the useful Tasleet. That came in similar company to todays, albeit this looks like a slightly weaker contest and he should improve again now making just his third start of the campaign. Mick Channon has two wins from 12 runners here at the Curragh and he will be hopeful of improving that record here although he’s another that looks up against it on this much faster surface.
5 SUEDOIS – Finished behind Mobsta when the pair met at York but he looked to struggle in the ground and could never get involved. He should do better here now making his second start of the season and he has some excellent form to his name including several placed efforts in Group 1 company. This ground is a slight unknown but he should be able to handle it and will be dangerous here if he’s improved from his last run.
6 ACAPULCO – Made an extremely pleasing return to action at the Curragh just under a fortnight ago when getting the better of some fair sorts in a Listed race. This will evidently require more but she will come on for that first run and she will be dangerous here if she improves again making just her eighth career start. She will like this fast ground and rates as one of the biggest dangers in the field for the excellent Aidan O’Brien.
7 ONLY MINE – Well-beaten by Downforce on her seasonal reappearance last month. She has form on Good ground so she should do better against that rival here although she has lots to do in order to reverse the form off level weights. She’s open to plenty of improvement and this looks like the right trip for her so there are plenty of positives about her although the yard have a poor 5% strike rate at the Curragh.
