IN SUMMARY: It’s very hard to look past MASTER SINGER, who turned in a career best performance to win at Wolverhampton in comfortable fashion on his latest start. That maintained his unbeaten record on the tapeta and he looked potentially smart, value for far more than the winning margin suggests. He can make a mockery of a five pound rise to win again under Robert Tart, with the main danger coming from Sir Chauvelin.

1 SIR CHAUVEIN – In the form of his career in 2017 for Jim Goldie, struggling in two very tough races the last twice. This race is much easier and he’s dropped down to a very attractive mark. He has the in form Danny Tudhope aboard and a big run is inbound.

2 PEARL CASTLE – Hasn’t won since June 2014 and he’s had plenty of chances since, well beaten when last seen in March. He now returns off two pounds lower and is very well treated at his best, but too much has to be taken on trust after a break.

3 BURCAN – Three wins from eight starts for this lightly raced five year old, second in a claimer on his latest start. That form has been franked as the third (who he beat by four lengths) has come out and won since. He’s back up in trip and has to be considered.

4 MASTER SINGER – Unbeaten on the tapeta for John Gosden and his latest victory at Wolverhampton announced him as a potentially smart sort. He’s now five pounds higher in a tougher race, but a similar performance will see him difficult to beat.

5 DIODORUS – Got off the mark at the seventh attempt when winning at Dundalk on his latest start in a weak maiden, leaving Aidan O’Brien since. This is much tougher and his mark looks harsh based on that. Hard to recommend him.

6 GURKHA FRIEND – Very inconsistent since a win at Ripon in May, well beaten on his last four runs and he showed very little in the way of encouragement for the future. His mark continues to slide, but he makes limited appeal upped in trip.

7 RAINBOW REBEL – Progressive last season for Mark Johnston but things have been trickier of late, fourth at Chelmsford two weeks ago in a tough race for the grade. He’s a pound lower but he doesn’t win very often these days and can only be given each way claims.
