2.15pm Southwell tips for Monday’s Class 5 race. The feature race of the day at Southwell on Monday, a Class 5 mile handicap where thirteen go to post. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis.

IN SUMMARY: Straight Away won in good style on her debut at Redcar two weeks ago and she’s open to progress on handicap debut, but it is worth taking a chance on SAMPHIRE COAST now that our original tip, Boots And Spurs, is a non-runner. Derek Shaw’s 4-year-old is a previous C&D winner who often misses the break before flashing home when others are floundering and should they go quick enoug up front, there’s a good chance he’ll be running on best of all. At the prices, he’s worth a bet.

1 ZAEEM – Won off eight pounds higher back in early 2016 by a post-code but his form in 2016 has been less than impressive. He was well beaten at Yarmouth back in August and off four pounds lower he still makes very little appeal.

3 LIVELLA FELLA – Three wins from thirty-three starts and all of those have come at longer distances. She was last seen tailed off at Newcastle last month and she is readily opposed off only two pounds lower for Keith Dalgleish.

4 STRAIGHT AWAY – Well backed into 6/4 favourite on debut for Andrew Balding, winning at Redcar in good style. She clearly knew her job and the form does hold up well in the context of this race. She makes his handicap debut off a workable mark and has to be respected.

5 RED TOUCH – Has been well beaten on most of his runs since a good second at this venue in March, though that was over the six furlongs. He is versatile trip wise and well treated if bouncing back to form, which couldn’t be discounted.

6 CADEAUX BOXER – Thirteen race maiden who has looked in the grips of the handicapper for a long while now, again well held at Lingfield when last seen. The handicapper has only relented a pound and that once again leaves him vulnerable.

7 HERNANDO TORRES – Zero from three on this surface for Mick Easterby and although he went close at Ripon in August, he’s been well held on two runs since. He’s never been the most consistent of horses and others are preferred on the percentages.

8 SHEARIAN – Completed a hat-trick over course and distance last winter for Declan Carroll but things have been much tougher in 2017, well beaten on his last five runs. He’s well treated now on the best of his form, but his current vein of form leaves him with far too much to prove.

9 REBEL STATE – Runner-up at Newcastle on his latest start, keeping on strongly but perhaps given too much to do on the day. He’s a pound higher here but if taking to the fibresand well, he’s a strong each way contender under seven pound claimer Harrison Shaw.

10 SAMPHIRE COAST – Won off four pounds lower at Chelmsford back in April, not disgraced on his latest start when fourth at that venue eleven days ago. He’s back up in grade here which is of concern though and leaves him vulnerable.

11 DREAM MAGIC – Three year old maiden for Daniel Loughnane who has shown very little in recent starts to suggest he’ll be getting onto the scoreboard anytime soon. He was never a factor at Kempton on his latest start and makes no appeal here off only two pounds lower.

12 SUNNUA – Got the better of subsequent scorer Break The Silence with a comfortable win at Nottingham earlier this month, raised six pounds as a result. She remains well treated on the best of her turf form and if able to transfer her form into this discipline, she’s an each way player.

13 AMERICAN PATROL – Only seven runs thus far for this three year old who hasn’t been seen since a well beaten last at Chepstow in May, where a step up in distance back-fired. More is needed after a 181 day break but a market check is advised as there still may be more to come.

14 MEDICI MOON – Has been better than ever in 0-55 races the last twice for Scott Dixon, now stepping back up in grade. He’s not fully exposed but this is much tougher than his last two starts and that may find him out.

NON-RUNNERS:

2 BOOTS AND SPURS – Won at Catterick three starts ago and nearly followed up at the same venue ten days later, beaten as the favourite when last seen at Doncaster. He can now race off thirteen pounds lower returned to the all weather and he shouldn’t be for catching as this is a much easier race.
