1.30pm Southwell tips for Monday’s Class 4 race. Only a small field for this low level three mile chase, but with the oldest runner only seven, there is the potential for plenty of further improvement. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis.

IN SUMMARY: GOOSEN MAVERICK was ultimately well beaten at Wincanton last time but he had excuses there, the run nothing like as bad as the official margin suggests. He was backed off the boards on that occasion so is well worth another chance. Gorran Haven is another who has shown a little more ability that his form figures suggest, while rain would bring Powerful Symbol and Brown Trix into the argument.

1 POWERFUL SYMBOL – Point to point winner in Ireland, he is yet to fulfil that potential in this country. He has shown snippets of ability but with his best form coming on much softer ground and the welter burden of 12-7, he needs to produce more.

2 GORRAN HAVEN – Another to show glimpses of promise, he was a close third over two and a half miles at this track in April. The step up to this trip could reap dividends this season if he is ready to go first time back.

3 LOG ON – Impressive winner of a point in Ireland, he has struggled so far under rules. Looked in need of his Hexham return when getting very tired up the hill. Capable of better, but may need a few more pounds help from the handicapper to get his head in front.

4 KILLARE CASTLE – Shown next to nothing in eighteen starts in all disciplines, first time cheekpieces added on this occasion. Difficult to give a chance to but is one of just two runners for his yard at this track coming over from Ireland which is intriguing.

5 SMILING JESSICA – A running theme for this contest, she is a point winner in Ireland but has struggled under rules. Connections reach for first time cheekpieces in a bid to sharpen her up. Only her second start over fences here so probably capable of better.

6 GOOSEN MAVERICK – Shown more than the bare form figures let on. Backed off the boards at Wincanton last time, he was still in touch when badly hampered at the tenth, allowed to come home in his own time. Has the ability to figure from three pounds lower.

7 BROWN TRIX – Showed more last time from this mark. That was on softer ground, where the best of his form in points has come. Capable of a step forward in first time cheekpieces, but would appeal more with a little extra cut in the ground.
