3.25pm Newbury tips for Friday’s race. Close to a mile and three-quarter here for the three runners in what may well be end up as a tactical affair. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis. 

IN SUMMARY: This race is all about whether ROYAL LINE is as good as his breeding suggests he is, in which case he can take this in his stride and keep his one hundred percent win record and make it three wins from three races. Word is the think he is at least Group class in which case this should be just an education on his way toward the top but with a possible lack of early pace it will be interesting to see if Frankie Dettori takes it up early to ensure a decent gallop to being his stamina in to play.

1 DUKE OF BRONTE – Likely to be sent off the outsider of the three here for trained Rod Millman even with the presence of Jon Crowley in the saddle. A son of Mount Nelson, he has tried this sort of trip before at Sandown when weakening over the mile and three-quarters to finish a fourteen length fourth so his stamina has to be a huge question mark, though if there is little early pace his reserves will be less stretched. Last time out he was only beaten a length in third behind First Nation and Eynhallow in the Old Rowley Cup at Newmarket when keeping on at one pace after being left with too much to do, and he may do better now if he handles the trip on this softer ground.

2 TIME TO STUDY – Tactically flexible and could well make the running if neither of the other two are keen to go on early. Mark Johnston’s Motivator colt stays this trip with ease and has been tried over a lot further recent with a seventeenth of thirty-four in the Cesarewich last time out when weakening close home at Newmarket, but that was two and a quarter miles and he won’t suffer that issue here. He doesn’t lack for heart with his last win at Doncaster a ding-dong battle with the runner-up which he took by a head, and if he gets an easy lead then Franny Norton may well be able to dictate the pace and prove difficult to pass once the race begins in earnest.

3 ROYAL LINE – A step up in class is well deserved for John Gosden’s colt who boasts a 190% record after two starts and he will look to extend that here under Frankie Dettori. A son of Dubawi out of a Lammtarra mare, he started off over a mile and a half or so at Windsor when taking his maiden by two and three-quarter lengths at odds of 4/6 and followed that with an easy victory in a Class Three handicap at Haydock when finishing two and a quarter lengths clear of his field after being eased down. He does look as if he is the class act here with the possible lack of early pace his only obvious flaw and he will be expected to win this before moving up to Group level, perhaps next season.
