IN SUMMARY: This small field event can go to the in-form PEMBA. She was narrowly denied last time out at Sedgefield and she can gain compensation today off the same mark. Miss Spirit can give her most to think about making her chase debut for the Skelton yard.
MATCHAWAY – Has produced his best form on Soft ground so today’s going of Good is a slight concern. He was beaten a long way last time out at Worcester but the drop in grade is a positive and he’s a pound below his last winning mark, albeit over hurdles.
MCCABE CREEK – Career record of one win from 25 starts tempers enthusiasm about Caroline Bailey’s runner. He was beaten just under a length over fences last time out and he should improve again with the benefit of that run. Others make more appeal though.
MISS SPENT – Makes her first start over fences today for the Skelton stable. She should have been well schooled at home and a mark of 115 looks within reach in a small field such as this. The stable have a 19% strike rate over the past fortnight.
PEMBA – Narrowly denied success last time out at Sedgefield having been beaten by a short head. She remains on a mark of 112 which is evidently workable and conditions are in her favour again, so there is plenty to like about her chances. Respected.
SPIOLT ROTTEN – Seeks his first career success following ten runs without a win. He was far too keen last time out and fell having been well supported and he’s worth another chance here. He will need to settle better today though and could make the pace.
