IN SUMMARY: AMBITIOUS ICARUS has been very consistent of late and could be the answer in a field full of dead weight. However, Delahay may put it up to him if showing marked improvement on his runs so far.

1 AMBITIOUS ICARUS – Has strung together a sequence of very respectable runs since winning at Newcastle in July. He has won on soft ground before and is certainly feasibly handicapped having won off 2lb higher than this earlier this year. Big player.

2 CAPTAIN RYAN – Has won off this mark before, but that was all the way back in 2015 and he will have to stage a slight revival to be involved at the business end here. Some of his old form entitles him to respect, but he’s still not overly appealing.

3 PERFECT PASTIME  – Five disappointing runs on the bounce have seen him tumble in the weights since winning off 5lbs higher than his current mark back in May. Claims if returning to form similar to that but it seems unlikely that he will.

4 CONCUR – Won a couple on the bounce off marks in the 40s earlier in the year on better ground than this and was last seen when beaten out of sight in testing conditions at Lingfield. He needs more to be involved.

5 DELAHAY – Very lightly raced with just the four starts to his name, but he has been sent off big prices and beaten in each run. A mark of 50 is somewhat of a guess from the handicapper, however, and he could get involved here.

6 AMBITIOUS BOY –  Very poor run when last seen after looking as if he had come back to form the time before. He is winless since 2014 though and others appeal as more obviously well handicapped.

7 POUND NOTE –  Beaten over 41 lengths in his three starts combined and has shown very little ability. He would be a big shock if he were to make an impact here.

8 ARIZONA SNOW – Hasn’t tasted victory since 2015 and has been badly out of form of late. The handicapper has shown some mercy, but it would still take a major turnaround in form for him to be able to win.

9 ROYAL NORMANDY – Another who hasn’t won for a long time and has been badly out of form as of late. He has slipped to a very low mark, but has shown little to suggest that he is good enough to win a race at this stage in his career.

10 CORAL CAYE – Just the four runs, but she has been beaten out of sight in each one to date and comes with very little to recommend.
