7.15pm Newcastle tips for Friday’s Class 5 contest raced over seven furlongs for horses rated 0-75. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis.
IN SUMMARY: This race is wide open and it could pay to take a chance on SECRET MISSILE. He’s crashed down the weights since last year and there have been glimpses of promise this year, so the booking of Franny Norton could be significant. Market support for Ferocity would make him of interest.
1 MYWAYISTHEONLYWAY – Won a Class 5 handicap over an extended seven furlongs at Beverley three starts ago, however he followed that up with two poor runs on the wrong ground. He should bounce back to form here and the drop in grade will certainly help. Interesting.
2 ROCK WARBLER – Has recorded three wins at this track, including one over course and distance. He needs a good pace to aim at and will need things to fall his way, but he ran well in a decent enough race last time out and should be in contention again.
3 RED TYCOON – Two wins from 27 starts is less than inspiring, the last of which was recorded in July of last year. He’s been inconsistent this season despite posting his best run of the season last time out and he races off a 7lb lower mark on the All-Weather. Others look better treated.
4 DEANSGATE – Finally broke his maiden at the 19th attempt last time out, winning a Class 5 seven furlong contest by a length. He’s been raised a reasonable 4lbs, but this looks tougher and lightening may not strike twice with Julie Camacho’s runner.
5 ACRUX – Finished behind Red Tycoon last time out over seven furlongs and, while weighted to get closer, he hasn’t looked that progressive and it might pay to oppose him with some better weighted rivals in this. The yard have an 11% strike rate at present.
6 FEROCITY – Lightly raced three-year-old making just his sixth start today. His form behind Tomily earlier in the season is decent enough for this grade and something clearly went wrong having been off the track for over 200 days. Luke Morris is a positive booking and the betting should guide.
7 SECRET MISSILE – Has sunk down the handicap having been rated over 20lbs higher than this mark just over a year ago. He has shown glimpses of ability this season and the booking of Franny Norton catches the eye, so he’s of interest in this in conditions that should suit.
8 PORTLEDGE – Remains a maiden from ten starts and patience is wearing thin with James Bethell’s runner. His third place effort behind Isabella at Pontefract last month is decent enough form and he’s hard to discount, however the drop back in trip will need to bring out more in him.
9 HERNANDO TORRES – Beaten a length over a mile at Ripon last time out having stayed on well. The drop back in trip is a small surprise, but it takes some getting here at Newcastle and Ryan Timby keeps the partnership intact. Ranks as one of interest off a fair mark.
10 WHITKIRK – Looks up against it in this grade off of this mark. He has run with credit for much of the season, but a mark of 68 looks high enough for him and he has to give weight away to some better treated rivals. Best watched today.
11 VALENTINO BOY – Another lightly raced sort who has been well supported in his last two starts having been sent off favourite on both occasions. He’s only 2lbs higher than his last winning mark and the step back down in trip is a positive move. Makes his All-Weather debut today.
12 PICKETT’S CHARGE – Has a course success to his name which came over a mile earlier this year. He was well supported that day in a weaker grade than this, although he is only a pound higher than that mark here. The yard have failed to send out a winner from 24 runners in the past fortnight.
13 GARTER – Made his first start for Richard Fahey last time out having switched yards in the summer. He was beaten a long way and has his sights lowered here, although he needs to produce a dramatic reversal of form. Market support would be interesting.
14 CAESER THE GEASER – Nigel Tinkler is operating at a 29% strike rate in the past fortnight , however his five-year-old looks up against it here. He’s stepped back up in trip following a disappointing run last time out and this grade may just stretch him with some nicer sorts in opposition.
