7.45pm Chelmsford tips for Thursday’s Class 6 race. With place money all the way down to fourth and £3,235 for the winner, 13 are set to compete here over the seven furlongs. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis. 

IN SUMMARY: Another complex handicap with more out of form sorts than those at the top of their game, but ART’S DESIRE (Each Way) looks to still be improving and, at her price, she looks outstanding each way value. She has plenty of placed form and drops in class this evening which can only help her cause.

1 TULIP DRESS – The booking of Silvestre de Sousa suggests that connections mean business with the daughter of Dutch Art who has won three of her 25 starts and placed in four others. Her nose second to Hedging at Chepstow last month makes good reading here, but she did finish a less inspiring fifth at Brighton last time, beaten over nine lengths. She needs to recapture her earlier efforts to have a decent chance tonight.

2 DASHING POET – Yet to try this far despite 14 races that have included wins here over five furlongs and at Wolverhampton over the same trip. She only has a pound more than her highest winning mark today and has a decent chance if she stays the seven furlongs. Heather Main’s filly deserves her place on the shortlist here.

3 MISS OSIER – Drops in class after finishing third to Here’s Two at Sandown over this trip in early September and she gets to race off two pounds lower as well. Stays further so she won’t mind a fast run race. She seems to have a decent each way chance for trainer Rae Guest who has a 14% strike rate in the last 14 days, with one winner from seven runners.

4 ART’S DESIRE – Still a maiden after nine starts with third places at Wolverhampton, Kempton and Doncaster the highlights and a five and a half length fifth at Lingfield the latest effort. She does drop in class here which will certainly help her and, with room for more improvement, she looks like a live wire each way option today.

5 WESTERN SAFARI – Danny Tudhope rides for Richard Hannon on board the daughter of High Chaparral. She is still a maiden after just the four starts and has been going backwards since a promising debut third over this trip at Kempton. Last time out she was beaten 17 lengths at Lingfield and behind Art’s Desire. Unless she finds massive improvement she has little or no chance here.

6 ZENOVIA – Moved from David Simcock to Archie Watson in mid-September after a last of nine here over a mile and a quarter at the end of March and has her first run in six months this evening. Her breeding does suggest that this trip will be more suitable, but she has tried a mile before without success. After her long absence she is difficult to make a realistic case for here.

7 AGNETHE – Two seconds and a third from just the seven starts suggest that the daughter of Requinto has plenty of latent ability. However, she needs to use that over this seven furlongs after finishing a decent enough fourth over five furlongs at Yarmouth last time out. Every chance if staying the added two furlongs now.

8 DREAM START – Reappears quickly today after a slow start cost her here on Tuesday when running on after the winner had flown to finish seventh of 12. Every possibility that this race will come too soon for John Ryan’s filly and others have to appeal a lot more in the circumstances.

9 TOUCH OF COLOR – Just the one race so far this season after joining the Richard Fahey stable from Jane Chapple-Hyam when she finished a poor seventh of 11 at Brighton, despite being sent off a 7/2 chance and favourite. She may well strip fitter for her first run since last October and could do better now for a stable still in among the winners of late.

10 VIOLA PARK – He seems much better on the all-weather surfaces than the grass these days, with a course and distance win in February and, more recently, a victory at Wolverhampton in June. It may be best to ignore his poor Bath run (on turf) and he seems sure to do better back on the polytrack this evening.

11 FRANK’S LEGACY – One of the more in-form options with a win at Wolverhampton in June followed by a good second here over this course and distance a couple of days ago. Hard to discount while in such good heart and runs off the same rating now, but this may well come that bit too soon for him to be seen at his best. 

12 RONNI LAYNE – A poor ninth of ten at Brighton when last seen in action, beaten over 17 lengths and she is still a maiden after ten starts. Up a pound now and no reason to expect anything better in these conditions considering her lack of recent polytrack experience.

13 GREYJOY – 17 runs without a win now and hard to make any kind of serious case for after he finished last at Brighton over a mile and a quarter last time out. Dropped back to this trip, but no guarantees that he will be any better for it.
