4.20pm Goodwood tips for Wednesday’s Class 3 contest raced over 1m 6f for horses rated 0-95. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis.
IN SUMMARY: Richard Hughes’s NATHANIA could provide some value in this competitive handicap. She steps up to 1m 6f today which should suit based on breeding and she could be racing off a fair mark with improvement to come. She can win this ahead of the reliable Graceland who generally runs her race.
1 GROOVEJET – Chases her first success since January 2014 and her career record of three wins from 28 starts is less than inspiring. This is far easier than some of her latest assignments but there’s little form to recommend her on and is best watched today.
2 GRACELAND – Has been an incredibly consistent sort for the Michael Bell yard and she was only beaten three lengths in a better race than this last time out. The ground shouldn’t pose any issues and a mark of 92 looks fair, so she should give another good account here.
3 RENFREW STREET – Took advantage of a falling mark at Carlisle last month when winning a Class 4 handicap over today’s trip. She’s 11lbs higher than that mark today which looks relatively harsh from the handicapper and others make a bit more appeal on these terms.
4 FIRE JET – Won a decent Class 3 event over 1m 6f by a neck last time out and she’s been raised 3lbs for that success. That leaves her on a career high mark, but she looks to be improving and she has definite place claims again for the John Mackie stable.
5 NOTICE – Finished two lengths behind Fire Jet when the pair met last time out, but she’s not weighted to reverse the form having also been raised 3lbs for her performance. The yard have sent out just one winner from their last 23 runners and others make greater appeal.
6 ST MARY’S – Has shown a good level of consistency on her last few starts with form figures of 212. She races off a mark of 83 again today which looks reasonable at this stage, although this event does look tougher than some of her recent assignments and Andrew Balding’s runner will need to improve again.
7 NATAHNIA – Has yet to win outside of maiden company but Richard Hughes’s filly is of interest in this. She ran well for a long way at Goodwood last time out and perhaps the step up in trip could bring out that required improvement. One of interest, not least due to her decent pedigree.
8 GALLIFREY – Promised to be a progressive sort this season following a slim defeat to Enable in a Newcastle maiden. She’s yet to win a handicap and has looked shy in the finish, which may suggest that she’s not got much in hand. The step up in trip to 1m 6f looks smart and David Egan claims a useful 3lbs. Interesting.
9 MELINOE – Finished a neck behind Fire Jet last time out and she should go close again today. She’s a classic Sir Mark Prescott sort, improving the further she goes, although the yard have only sent out one winner from their last 21 runners. There may be some value in opposing her at the prices.
10 STAR GUIDE – Won a low grade maiden at Lingfield earlier this month but she didn’t produce anything spectacular and a mark of 75 looks more than enough on handicap debut. The big step up in trip leaves her with stamina to prove and others are preferred.
