IN SUMMARY: Value is the name of the game and the price of DEGOOCH (Each Way) is over the top in the circumstances and he looks well worthy of an each way interest. He is learning all the time and looks well weighted considering the possible improvement and ought to prove hard to keep out of the frame with a clear round.
MIDNIGHT COWBOY – Three wins from five starts so far this season, the latest last time out at Stratford when cleverly beating Cut The Corner by half a length. Meets that rival on three pounds worse terms here but looked to have plenty up his sleeve if needed.
MIDNIGHT SHOT – Three wins in a row in May and June saw the seven-year-old Midnight Legend gelling hit a career high rating of 139 over fences but two races since have seen him beaten twenty-seven lengths and seventeen and a half lengths since stepped up in class. This level could well be more realistic.
CUT THE CORNER – Weighted to finish a lot nearer Midnight Cowboy now on these terms but he disappointed at Newton Abbot last time over further when looking one-paced close home, though that was over hurdles. Better over fences but handicapped accordingly but surely he won’t be far away again on a return to chasing.
IT’S A GIMME – Yet to win from three starts this season but a solid second to Forever My Friend at Stratford in June and he races off a pound lower here. The tongue tie returns after a well-beaten tenth in a better race at Market Rasen and he could go well at a big price under Aidan Coleman.
DEGOOCH – Not the cleanest of jumpers on occasion but he did win by an easy ten lengths at Stratford in July before falling at the ninth in the race won by Midnight Cowboy at the same track. He does have to carry eight pounds more than his last win but looks to be improving with experience and he looks to have outstanding chance today as he is sure to have been intensely schooled at home since to iron out his errors.
JAYO TIME – Potentially well handicapped off a rating of 130 but the Kerry Lee eight-year-old has fallen on his last two attempts over fences at Ludlow. Both races this season have seen disappointing efforts over hurdles but the return to chasing could well rekindle his enthusiasm.
FLYING EAGLE – Two all the way wins at Cartmel sandwich a pulled up when it looked as if all was not well at Perth but if he remains sound he has to have a decent chance here. Up seven pounds for his last win and up in class as well he needs to improve again, but the Kerry Lee stable remain in form and he ought to be a major contender.
PETROU – Four wins in a row for Dan Skelton’s gelding (three over hurdles and one over fences) came to an abrupt end last time out when he was pulled up after three out over hurdles at Cartmel. Needs a career best by some margin off this mark but still has room to improve further.
VIKEKHAL – Moved from Gary Moore to Steve Flook in July and won over two miles at Worcester on his first start for his new stable. Well beaten in both races since and reported to break blood vessels now and then and good as he could be, not necessarily one to rely on for now.
BEAU BAY – One win from two runs over fences for Dr Newland’s six-year-old, and a lot more room to improve than most. The booking of Sam Twiston-Davies to ride him once again here catches the eye after a solid third at Newton Abbot over further, and he can only get better with experience.
EXITAS – Phil Middleton’s gelding finally won for the first time over fences last time out at Stratford on his eighth attempt and the penny may have finally dropped. Well weighted today off ten stone four but not sure to stay this two and half miles and he may still prove better over shorter.
ONE FOR THE BOSS – Runs from three pounds out of the handicap today carrying ten stone as opposed to his allotted nine stone eleven, and he has been out of form for well over a year now. A 79 length last of ten at Ffos Las last time out fails to inspire and he is difficult to argue a case for even off bottom weight.
