A mile in front of these three-year-olds in a maiden contest, Our expert tip and runner by runner preview are below.
IN SUMMARY: YOGIYOGIYOGI produced a promising effort on her debut when behind the hot favourite for this race Deliberator. The William Knight horse had the benefit of previous experience on that occasion, so she is entitled to get a little closer to him or turn the form around if the runner-up yesterday for the yard means they are coming back to form. Lewinsky has the form in the book to get involved, but she hasn’t really gone on from her debut and may do better in handicaps.
AKUNA MATTATTA – Shown very little when beating just a single rival home in three maidens. He has been gelded since and given a basement mark of 45, so he has very little chance of getting involved at this level, even if the gelding operation has worked the oracle.
DELIBERATOR – Placed on both starts, he stepped forward a little on the second occasion when trying Polytrack for the first time. A repeat of that off another break would make him the one to beat in this field and he should be capable of a bit better yet. Looks one to follow once he steps into handicaps at a bit further, but could get off the mark in maiden company first.
ENIGMATIC – Showed a little promise on his debut at this track back in June 2016. He has not been seen on a track since, gelded in the interim so a market check is advised to gauge how ready he looks to take on the task at hand. The step up to this trip should suit, but he looks like another who is going to be more of a betting proposition when he tackles handicaps a little further down the line.
NUNCIO – Already had nine bites of the cherry, he is in danger of looking regressive, unable to move on from a smart effort on his debut for this yard. Both the trip and surface suit, so he should at least give his running once more. However, his previous record strongly suggests that he will find at least one of them too good for him.
SARADANI BAY – Showed a glimmer of promise on his belated debut, heavy ground looking like hard work for him on that occasion. The move onto a quicker surface should show him in a better light and, although he is going to need to improve at least a stone if he is to get his head in front, that is far from impossible, an interesting outsider.
SWISS VINNARE – The only horse in this field not to have made a previous visit to a racecourse, he only attracted a bid of £580 at the sales before leaving unsold. He is a full brother to Matilda Gleam who was a 63 rated sprinter at her best and he makes very little appeal here.
DANICA ASHTON – Has shown very little in a pair of starts so far, scrambling home in fourth last time out in a poor contest, splitting rivals rated 55 and 40. She is going to have to improve out of all recognition off the back of that in just a fortnight if she is to get her head in front.
LADY OF STEEL – Caught the eye on debut at Kempton with handicapping in mind, picking off a few stragglers late on. She would have to step up hugely if she is to cause a massive shock by landing this maiden, but she is worth keeping in the notebook for when she embarks on a handicapping career.
LEWINSKY – Very promising on debut, she has failed to back that impression up in a pair of starts since. She tried going from the front when last seen in an attempt to run the finish out of her rivals but she failed to do so. Her immediate family are best at up to a mile so, despite running on over ten furlongs on debut, perhaps this step back down to a mile is going to be what she needs to finally fulfil that potential.
YOGIYOGIYOGI – Only seen on the track once so far when fourth in a Lingfield maiden. She was three and a quarter lengths behind Deliberator on that occasion but he had the benefit of previous experience. Hors De Combat went close at Sandown yesterday for a yard who have had a tough season, so perhaps they are coming back to form. If they are she looks like a great each way play in a weak race.
