5.45pm Newcastle Tips & Betting Preview 12/09/2017

A field of twelve go to post for the first race of the day at Newcastle on Tuesday. See our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Considering the connections, Sulafaat is likely to be hugely popular on Nursery debut and she should be going close upped in trip. However, in such a poor race preference is for YOUR JUST DESSERTS who showed promise at the minimum trip on her last two maidens and is bred to appreciate this step up in trip. She also has plenty of Polytrack winners in her pedigree and, with the in form Joe Doyle taking the ride, she can win off a basement mark on Nursery debut.

1 SULAFAAT – Two-year-old daughter of Haatef for powerful connections of Mark Johnston and Hamdan Al Maktoum, showing hints of ability over the sprint trips in the summer. His pedigree suggests that he will improve for this step up in trip and, judging by how badly he was outpaced on his latest start over six, it’s hard not to see him improving markedly on handicap debut. Franny Norton takes the ride and he’s a key player.

2 HIGHLAND BOBBY – Six race maiden for David O’Meara who wasn’t beaten far on his latest start at Wolverhampton over the six furlong trip, going down by a few lengths. He’s now down a pound in the handicapper and a repeat of that performance will see him go close under David Nolan, but he still looks vulnerable for win purposes as he lacks a finishing effort.

4 MARSH STORM – Showed promise on debut for Karl Burke but things have quickly gone backwards since and she’s now a very hard horse to recommend after blowing out on Nursery debut at Wolverhampton in August. She showed very little that day and was never better than her finishing position, with a three pound drop in the weights doing very little to tempt us on this occasion.

5 ARCHIE PERKINS – Seven race maiden for Nigel Tinkler who isn’t improving and just keeps plugging into midfield on his runs. He was last seen finishing in midfield once again, keeping on at the one pace to finish sixth at Musselburgh two weeks ago. He has Josie Gordon on board today which is a big plus and the yard are going well, however it’ll take a leap of faith to back him as he needs to find something from somewhere.

6 ROCK ON BERTIE – Looks to be the first string for Nigel Tinkler who has placed on his last three runs, finishing third for the second consecutive race when plugging on at Lingfield in August. He was beaten nine lengths that day though and he clearly needs to improve if he’s to feature under Tom Eaves. Possible each way contender as he does have some form at least compared to others, but he’s another who looks vulnerable.

7 SANDAMA – Has finished third in plating events the last twice for Richard Fahey, although the latest of which was in a three runner race that was extremely tactical and she was likely flattered by her finishing position. She’s now back into Nurseries and is another who needs to improve to feature, but she does run for top connections. It would be no surprise to see her running a big race with Tony Hamilton taking the ride.

8 MOUNTAIN MEADOW – Showed regressive form in maidens for Richard Fahey, finishing last on her third start when showing very little promise for the future. She had excuses on her latest start at Nottingham, but her first three efforts give little hope that she can win a race any time soon. Headgear now goes on which does make her slightly interesting and she’s in a very weak race, so she does hold each way claims if the headgear helps.

9 HARBOUR ROSE – Has only beaten two horses home from a total of 41 in her career thus far for Philip Kirby, and that’s from only four races. She was last on her Nursery debut at Nottingham and, although that was in a higher class, the margin she was beaten gives little hope for the future. Connections are banking on the switch to the all weather and the hood going on to boost her performance, but she’s too risky to back at present.

10 ANGIE B – Showed a bit more on handicap debut for John Wainwright when third at Redcar last month, keeping on inside the final furlong to finish third. She remains on the same mark and moves back up to the seven furlong trip, which looks sure to help her based on her latest run. She could out-run her odds if improving again, but that’s not guaranteed on her all weather debut so caution is advised.

11 YOUR JUST DESSERTS – Three runs in Novice/Maiden company for Micky Hammond thus far, showing some promise on her last two runs. She was always in the rear at Catterick on her latest start, but she lost no further ground in the final few furlongs and that was over the five furlong trip. She is bred to stay seven furlongs and there are plenty of Polytrack winners in her pedigree, so she may improve for the switch to the tapeta. The in form Joe Doyle takes the ride and she looks sure to be involved.

12 LADY CASHMERE – Daughter of Lord Shanakill for Alistair Whillans who has shown little to nothing on her three runs thus far. She was last on her latest start at Hamilton over the mile, always in the rear and struggling. She is visored on Nursery debut but that does nothing to tempt us on this occasion.
