Monday’s Brighton card opens with a six furlong maiden event for fillies. Our expert tip and runner by runner preview for the contest is below.

IN SUMMARY: DAYBREAK has comfortably shown the best form in this line-up, when she was just nailed right on the line at Newmarket. This is a weaker contest and a sharper track so she can put that experience to good use. Musical Theatre looks the best of the newcomers, with trainer David Simcock winning this race in 2016 with a newcomer.

1 DAYBREAK – Stepped forward considerably from her first start to second, only just run down in the final stride over this trip at Newmarket. She made the running on that occasion and this sharper six furlong race should suit her. After having conquered the Newmarket undulations, she also shouldn’t have any issues with Brighton. A repeat of that should be more than enough to get her head in front at the third time of asking.

2 FOXANGEL – Showed up well for a long way on her Newbury debut over seven furlongs. She faded tamely out of things in the last 300 yards on that occasion, so the step down in trip to six furlongs should see her in a better light. She has plenty to find with the likes of the favourite on that bare form, however she is entitled to step forward for the effort.

3 HAPPY ENDING – Eighth of ten on her Salisbury debut, she was slowly away and never managed to get herself involved in the contest. She is from a nice family which includes the Jessie Harrington trained Macnicholson who is a smart hurdler. That suggests that she is going to need a little more time and distance before we see her at her best.

4 HARBOUR SEAL – Midfield on her debut at Leicester, a race that hasn’t worked out well since. She misbehaved there, unshipping her pilot on the way to the start so she has a first time hood fitted here in an attempt to calm her down. She needs to step forward significantly on that run to figure.

5 HAVANA HEART – Shaped better on her second run when runner-up at Lingfield, although ultimately beaten comfortably enough. The favourite trailed home last there so the form probably isn’t worth an awful lot. Her dam showed her best form over nine furlongs so, with this run needed for a mark, a step up in trip next time on handicap debut would make her more interesting.

6 LADY GODIVA – Showed promise on her debut but failed to back that up on soft ground last time. The ground will be very different to that here which may allow her to show a little more in the way of ability. She has a speed influence on her dam side and stamina on her sire, so it remains to be seen what her best trip will be.

7 LIVING IN THE NOW – Sire is a smart speed influence, yet her dam has produced a couple of jumps winners as well as stayers on the flat. None of her siblings were particularly precocious so the market is going to be the best guide to her chances over this sharp six furlongs to start her career.

8 MUSICAL THEATRE – Looks a likely type on paper – her full brother was a multiple winner in France for Andre Fabre. Both he and her dam were winners at the second time of asking as a juvenile, but trainer David Simcock won this contest with a newcomer in 2016 so she is one of the more interesting ones in the race.

9 PRINCESS HARLEY – Dam’s best run came on her debut, not really progressing from there. Her dam’s family are smart; four of her six siblings produced RPR’s of 112+ so there is plenty of promise to be gleaned there. Mick Quinn is 0/21 with his juveniles on turf in the last five years so, despite the promising pedigree, she is probably best watched for now.

10 WEAR IT WELL – Has run to a similar level on her two starts so far over this trip. She shapes as if the step into handicaps after this run is going to see her in a better light, especially in the care of Hendy Candy who will surely have her in the winners enclosure once she is in that discipline.
