This is a tricky handicap over 7 furlongs, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: There are a few questionable types in this field and TIGERFISH can take advantage of the weight-for-age allowance and complete a hat-trick. She’s beaten similar rivals to these on her last two runs and she should confirm she’s on an upward curve now she’s got her head in front. Tasaaboq is another in-form horse who attempts to complete the treble whilst any money for Daydream would be of interest.
TASAABOQ – Has been in good form of late having notched up a double over 6 furlongs at Wolverhampton in his last two starts. He won both of those by a neck and he will have a much tougher task today under a 6lb penalty which puts him on an effective mark of 56. The step up in trip is a slight question mark but connections have found the key to him of late and he should go well again from a good draw.
HOME AGAIN – Career record of no wins from 15 starts is less than inspiring but he’s gone close on his last two runs and connections are starting to get to the bottom of him. He failed by a nose over C&D back in February off just 2lbs lower and he went close again over shorter here when sent off the 9/4 favourite. Connections apply the visor here for the first time which may bring out more improvement and he’s worthy of respect once again.
DAYDREAM – Trainer has had 3 winners from 13 runners here although his filly in this looks up against it. She’s been well-beaten on two starts since arriving at Tony Newcombe’s yard and her mark has fallen 7lbs to today’s rating of 50 and that could be workable having placed off 6lbs higher just this time last year. Martin Dwyer is a decent booking and she should be watched closely in the betting.
WILD FLOWER – This mare is winless from 27 career starts and the handicapper drops her a pound for another big defeat on her final start of last season. She’s dropped back in trip here to something more suitable and she has placed several times off this mark and from a pound higher but she seems to find one too good far too frequently and is avoided here.
ISNTSHESOMETHING – The visor is used for the first time on this Richard Guest trained mare and her trainer has a good record here (4 wins from 15 runners). She’s another with an unattractive profile (without victory in 20 starts) and she’s been beaten a long way in her most recent outings at Newcastle. She’s tried somewhere different today but she has failed to place on six All-Weather starts and is also avoided.
ZEBELINI – One win from 26 starts and that came all the way back in 2014 on debut. She ran a fair race on her last start when beaten 3 lengths by Culloden over five furlongs and it’s a surprise to see her stepped up in trip to 7 furlongs today having shown a hint of ability on that recent run over the minimum trip. Races off 1lb out of the handicap and is best watched.
LOCOMMOTION – Was without a win in 16 starts but broke his maiden tag yesterday at Lingfield by a decent margin (3 1/2 lengths). That came as a surprise at 20/1 and he won it in a fashion of a horse who had more improvement to come. This is his trainer’s first runner here and he may not take up this engagement but if he does, he’ll be a threat in the form of yesterday’s run.
BOLD MAX – His sole victory from 43 runs came over 6 furlongs at Wolverhampton in April 2015 and connections have tried to reinvent him over this slightly longer trip this winter. He was beaten 1 1/4 lengths by Tigerfish back in February and he did follow that up with another placed effort over a mile. Remains to be seen whether he can repeat those efforts here and races from 1lb out of the handicap.
TIGERFISH – Took advantage in a Class 7 handicap at Lingfield in February and she followed that up with another win over the same C&D by 2 1/4 lengths. The handicapper has given her a rating of 47 but she receives a weight-for-age allowance here which puts her well-off at the weights with a few of these. She’s in a good vein of form unlike many of her rivals and it’d be disappointing if she couldn’t follow that up with another good run here. Respected.
