IN SUMMARY: This is an interesting handicap and the vote goes to OMEROS. He ran with credit at Chelmsford last time out following a gelding operation and he can build on that here and record his first handicap success. The market will guide best about Tiercel and Waarif who both return from long lay-offs.

TIMELESS ART – Given an excellent ride at Kempton back in August to skip clear and win unchallenged. He may have been flattered by that success, but this is effectively a drop in grade and Clifford Lee negates some of that rise to leave him just 2lbs worse off at the weights. Interesting.

POET’S BEAUTY – One of the likely pace angles in this having made all to win a Nottingham handicap last summer. He’s entitled to improve from his last start following a long lay-off, however the market will guide best off a mark of 85.

TIERCEL – Hasn’t been seen for over a year having completed a double at Windsor in Class 4 company. He returns to action off just 2lbs higher today, although the lay-off is a clear concern and he’s best watched unless significant market support arrives. Silvestre De Sousa rides.

ALEXANDRAKOLLONTAI – Fully exposed seven-year-old making her 82nd start today. She’s been beaten a fair way on her most recent efforts and the switch to the All-Weather may not produce instant returns off a high enough mark of 82. Best watched.

PROST – Lightly raced three-year-old making his seventh start today. He’s shown some solid enough form this season without looking particularly well handicapped and he may be best watched again off a 2lb lower mark following a comfortable defeat last time out.

HARLOW – Won a course and distance maiden earlier this year, but he failed to progress as connections may have expected. He was gelded over the summer and makes his first start since that operation today. A mark of 80 looks within reach and he’s of interest here.

TESTA ROSSA – Multiple course and distance winner with the last of those successes coming off a 4lb lower mark. He’s run with credit off a higher mark than this in these conditions and he should go well again having been just touched off on the turf last time out.

ZYMYRAN – Has been well held in some better handicaps than this, most recently following a good success in a Class 3 contest at Newmarket earlier this season. He’s on a high enough mark now, but he has a course and distance win to his name and should continue to improve.

WAARIF – Makes his handicap debut today and his first start since July of last year. He’s transferred yards from Ireland to David O’Meara’s and the betting should be interesting off this long lay-off. A mark of 79 could be within reach if fit.

OMEROS – Has form on the All-Weather following a decent run at Chelmsford in August following a gelding operation. A mark of 82 looks fair, although he will need to improve for the Hugo Palmer stable. The hood is left off having made little impact last time out.

THOMAS CRANMER – 7lbs below his last winning mark which came at Musselburgh in a Class 3 event earlier this summer. That form gives him a fair chance in this, however his best form has come on the turf and he’s struggled of late.

MADROOS – Relatively consistent performer for the yard with one win and five placed efforts from nine starts. There was money about for him at Wolverhampton last time out, but he couldn’t justify the support and a one pound drop in the weights may not be sufficient in this stronger race.

AUSPICION – Ran with credit last time out off a stiff enough mark of 78, but this looks like a stronger race again. He won a course and distance handicap early last month and he has hit some form, but he’s up against some better treated rivals in this and others make more appeal.

RASHFORD’S DOUBLE – Finished ahead of Auspicion when the pair met at Newcastle last month, yet he couldn’t follow up that effort when well supported in a Redcar handicap last time out. He races off a low weight in this which does make him of interest and the booking of Tony Hamilton is positive.
