A field of five go to post for this intriguing handicap at Windsor on Monday evening, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: Maid To Remember created a good impression when winning on debut despite being green early on but MOUILLE POINT looks to be on a better mark for Richard Hannon and can take full advantage. She made her handicap debut at Nottingham at the start of May, benefitting hugely from the step up in trip to win by a head after holding on well late in the day and she’s only been raised five pounds as a result. She remains with huge amounts of potential at this trip and with Ryan Moore taking over the ride, she should be far too game for her rivals with conditions to suit.
1 MAID TO REMEMBER – Made her debut at Nottingham over the mile distance last month and despite looking green in the early stages, she came home strongly to lead close home to win by a head and makes her handicap debut today off a mark of 83. There is almost certainly more to come from her and she looks dangerous with this extra yardage likely to help her, but she doesn’t look as well treated as Mouille Point and looks set to play second fiddle to her on this occasion. Respected all the same but her day will come elsewhere.
2 FLYING NORTH – Ran some good races as a two year old for Richard Hannon, including an excellent second in a Nursery at Newmarket in October, but she is yet to match that form in two runs this season for connections. She was unable to build on her reappearance when well beaten at Goodwood exactly one month ago and she looks up against it once again, with this step up in trip far from assured to suit. Stable second string and likely unable to land a blow.
3 PLEAD – Unable to get past a game Mouille Point three starts ago at Nottingham and she has failed to match that form in two subsequent runs, well beaten at both Newbury and Sandown. She showed little on her latest run to suggest she was going to be bouncing back anytime soon for Archie Watson and although she’ll be happier returned to the 1m 2f trip, she remains risky and Maid To Remember looks a better option for the forecast.
4 MOUILLE POINT – The switch to handicaps and step up in trip to 1m 2f worked wonders on her latest start as she gamely denied Plead at Nottingham 55 days ago and there is likely far more to come from her at this trip for Richard Hannon. She has only been raised five pounds which looks lenient and she also has conditions to suit, which is another big plus. Ryan Moore takes over the ride and her brilliant attitude will see her tough to beat in this race for a yard in flying form at present.
5 LIGHTENING DANCE – Finished a promising second on debut at Salisbury last month and she built on that on her latest start at Goodwood 15 days ago to win gamely by a neck under today’s jockey Jim Crowley. Conditions are to suit and a mark of 78 is a fair enough mark on handicap debut, but she’s almost certain to be pipped for second by Maid To Remember, who created a good impression on debut and likely has more to come upped in trip.
