This is a Rated Race over seven furlongs at Naas, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: This race should be fought between Captain Power and DINKUM DIAMOND and the latter can come out on top. He bumped into a useful winner last time out and he showed himself to be a nice mark that day. He can gain compensation today with a victory ahead of Captain Power who should relish this return to faster ground. Korbous can do best of the rest having performed well of late.
DINKUM DIAMOND – Arrives here on the back of a good second at Gowran Park last time out having bumped into an easy winner. He showed himself to have fallen to a fair mark having seen his rating fall from 104 last year to a rating of 90 and he’s entered into today’s rated race off top weight. He gets the services of Killian Leonard again who claims a useful 5lbs again and he is likely to be popular in this.
AN SAIGHDIUR – Second runner in this for Andrew Slattery and his 10yo has been in poor form since the turn of the year with some heavy defeats in handicaps. He’s down 3lbs in the weights following his latest defeat but he’s another that has ground concerns having shown a liking for a bit of give in the ground and the yard have failed to send out a winner from their last ten runners. Opposed today.
CAPTAIN POWER – Will absolutely relish this ground having produced his best performances on Good to Firm. He was unsuited by the Soft conditions he faced last time out but he was still sent off the 7/1 favourite and connections will be hopeful of a big run here on these more favourable terms. He steps up to 7 furlongs today for only the second time in his 20-race career which raises slight questions of him but he’s got enough form in the book to win this.
CLUB WEXFORD – Struggled badly last time out at Gowran Park, finishing ninth of ten, beaten 44 lengths. Something was clearly amiss that day and he has major questions to answer on the back of that effort although the return to better ground should suit and a mark of 84 looks fair enough following some decent form earlier this season. Jim Bolger has been in good form of late with seven winners in the past fortnight.
ISHEBAYORGREY – Finished behind Club Wexford when the pair last met and he races off a relatively high mark given his turf form hasn’t quite matched up to his All-Weather performances. The ground and trip look perfect for him but his trainers record of 2 wins from 37 runners at Naas is off-putting and it may pay to look elsewhere given he has something to find with a few of these on form.
RIVELLINO – A talented runner on his day but Adrian McGuinness’ runner is without a win from 21 starts on the turf and his latest victory came in a low grade claimer at Dundalk earlier this season. He has Listed form to his name on the sand but he’s on the downgrade now and connections step him up in trip today in the hope of bringing out some improvement in him. He’s hard to fancy with the stats against him in this albeit he clearly has ability.
ALKASSER – Without a win since May 2014 and Dermot Weld’s runner has clearly had his issues having only been seen twice in 2015. He won a Listed contest on his third start as a 3yo and was rated 106 but he’s shown a fraction of that ability in his last few starts and was a well-beaten twelfth of sixteen last time out on his seasonal reappearance. He should improve for that today but he’s clearly got issues that have stopped him achieving his potential.
BURN THE BOATS – Showed some ability on the All-Weather on his stable debut earlier this year but he hasn’t looked as good on turf in his latest efforts. He’s stepped back up in trip today and he looks to have something to find with a few of his opponents having done most of his winning in claimers and it may pay to look elsewhere in this for a yard with a 4% strike rate at Naas.
KORBOUS – Finished ahead of Dinkum Diamond, Club Wexford and Ishebayorgrey two starts ago but he’s worse off at the weights today. The drop back in trip to seven furlongs should suit having looked slightly stretched over a mile in Soft ground last time out and Oisin Orr claims 5lbs again today which will certainly help. Worthy of respect today back in conditions he will like.
SEANIE – Has been off the track since the end of last year when last seen finishing last of twelve, beaten 8 3/4 lengths at Dundalk. He’s now without a win since October 2015 and his form needs some serious improvement to see him come out on top today. He’s slipped another 4lbs in the weights but he still looks poorly treated on these terms and others make much more appeal today.
