This is a competitive maiden over 7 furlongs, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: There is a lot to like about the profile of CARIGRAD and there should be more to come this season. Hugo Palmer can get his horses ready off a break and he should put in a bold effort again today, assuming he has progressed from his only start. The expensive Farook should give him most to think about whilst Miss Mirabeau is one to keep an eye on at the bigger prices.
TILSWORTH LUKEY – Only 4yo in the race and he gives away a lot of weight to better rivals here. He was beaten out of sight last time out at Chelmsford over 7 furlongs having finished last of 7 beaten 34 lengths. The stable have been badly out of form of late and he is impossible to recommend here.
BADENSCOTH – Beaten at odds of 33/1 and 66/1 on two starts this year and hasn’t been able to threaten the placings. His last run came over C&D and there should be more to come based on breeding but he’s likely to do better once entered into handicaps further down the line and is best watched here.
BOBBIO – Yard have a decent enough strike rate here (16%) although this Choisir doesn’t look to improve that record. He finished ahead of Tilsworth Lukey on debut but still finished sixth in the seven strong field and was beaten 22 lengths having been sent off 6/1. There should be more to come with that experience under his belt but he’s hard to recommend on what he’s shown.
CARIGRAD – Yard have sent out maiden winners already this season and Hugo Palmer has an excellent 23% strike rate here. This once raced Excelebration colt is a half-brother to Home Of The Brave and he was only beaten a length on debut at Lingfield. There was plenty of money around for him that day (9/4) and he should do much better today with that experience under his belt. Commands plenty of respect here.
FAROOK – Bought for an incredible 420,000GNS as a yearling but he’s been pretty disappointing for that price tag. He’s been unable to get his head in front in two Class 4 maidens although he did place behind a runaway winner at Newcastle last year in a similar contest to this. It’s a surprise connections haven’t stepped him up in trip yet but there should be more to come now he’s been gelded. Interesting prospect.
GUNMAKER – Ran a nice enough race on debut having looked a bit green in the finish. He missed the start that day which didn’t help and there should be more to come from him with that experience under his belt in what could have been a decent enough maiden. Liam Keniry takes over in the saddle and this Canford Cliffs gelding is one to take note of with a view to handicaps further down the line.
MOOLAZIM – Another runner for Marco Botti in this and he’s a colt by Tamayuz. The yard have sent out a winner recently and it’ll be interesting to see just how clued up he’ll be on debut. His pedigree doesn’t completely jump off the page but any market support would be significant.
MULZIM – Exceed And Excel colt who has shown plenty of pace in two starts to date. He ran in better maidens than this on the turf at the end of last season including a Class 3 event at York so there’s every chance he could be a threat now dropped in grade. It’s a small surprise to see him stepped back up in trip but his yard have been in good form of late (20% strike rate) and the market should reveal all.
TIME’S ARROW – Sir Michael Stoute’s newcomers generally need their first run and his runner here won’t be helped by a terrible draw in stall 10. He may want slightly further than this in time although his dam was a 5 and 6 furlong winner so it’ll be interesting to see how much speed he shows on debut. Probably one for the future.
MISS MIRABEAU – Took a big step forward having been stepped up in trip for her second run and she was beaten by a couple of fair types. The second that day has gone on to run well again although didn’t look much of a world beater so the form is of a modest standard. She does receive weight from her rivals here (5lbs) and she has the benefit of racecourse experience and race fitness. This trip looks ideal and she’ll be eligible for handicaps after today.
