This is a Class 4 Novice Stakes over 6f, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: Izzy Bizu is going to be a tough nut to crack now in search of her third win from four starts but she could be worth taking on in this at a short price. The booking of Jim Crowley aboard ROYAL WAVE catches the eye and William Knight’s runner is a half-sister to the smart Solar Flair. She could be relatively forward on debut and could outrun her odds as could the nicely bred Be Mindful.
IZZY BIZU – Has recorded two successes in Novice Stakes races this year and connections keep her in this company again today. She shoulders a 6lb penalty for those victories although she sets a clear form standard of those who have raced. She’s likely to be popular again on the back of that 5-length success last time out and she will handle this ground today. Likely to attempt to make all and serve it up to her rivals in this.
BE MINDFUL – 135,000 Euro purchase as a yearling and her dam won twice as a 2yo on Yielding ground over a mile and a Listed 1m 1f contest. She’s likely to be forward on debut and races for a yard that have been in smart form of late, sending out 6 winners from 31 runners in the past fortnight (19%). She’s respected today and could be dangerous although she may want an extra furlong in time.
BLAZING BERYL – 60,000 Euro yearling out of an unraced mare. She’s a January foal so she should be physically forward although this yard has struggled badly for form over the past month or so and she’s likely to need this first racecourse outing to learn more about her game. The booking of Kieren Fox doesn’t entice enthusiasm and she’s best opposed today with some nicer sorts in opposition.
BUCKS FIZZ – Out of an excellent mare who won seven of her 15 career starts including the Group 1 Darley July Cup at Newmarket. She wasn’t seen until a 3yo although David Evans’ runner is sired by Havana Gold who has produced some nice enough 2yo’s this season. A major concern would be the yard’s form having sent out just one winner from 46 runners and she may be best watched on the back of that.
CHORAL MUSIC – Bred to be speedy by Equiano but she was picked up for as little as 2,500GNS as a foal and others make more appeal on paper. The yard don’t send out many first time out winners and they’ve been quiet of late, without a winner from their last seven runners. Others make far more appeal today.
ELEGANT JOAN – Related to a couple of nice enough sorts over this sort of trip and she’s out of a mare that won twice as a 2yo including on debut. This looks like the perfect trip for her on debut and she’s worth a second look in the betting although the yard aren’t renowned for first time out winners. She could be one for the notebook and is best watched in this.
GIGI – Second runner in this for Charlie Hills and she’s a once-raced daughter of Iffraaj and she cost a fair £50,000. She ran a nice enough race over 6 furlongs on debut at Lingfield last month but she looked to want slightly further than this and may just need a little bit more time to be seen to best effect. Fran Berry is a positive booking and she does have the benefit of race fitness so it would be unwise to rule her out entirely.
LITTLE MISS LILLY – Clive Cox’s daughter of Lethal Force was struggling from a long way out on her racecourse debut back in May and she’s unlikely to have progressed enough to win this. She was ridden from behind that day and she looked to lack a slight bit of pace although that could just be down to inexperience. She’ll benefit from that run but this is tougher and others make more appeal.
MRSAEEL – The clear second choice on form of today’s runners based on her second place finish in an 11-strong field at Kempton back in May. That came in a similar contest to today’s and connections leave on the cheekpieces again today in the hope that they bring about the same amount of improvement. The step up in trip clearly helped and she should put in a bold bid again today. The yard are without a winner from 9 runners in the past fortnight.
POINT HOPE – Cost 125,000 Euros as a yearling and she’s related to a couple of lightly-raced maidens. Her dam raced once as a 2yo and once as a 3yo, unsuccessful on both starts over slightly further than today’s trip. She hails from a yard that do well with their maiden runners although she doesn’t make a massive amount of appeal on breeding and others are preferred.
ROYAL WAVE – Half-sister to Solar Flair who is a nice sort and William Knight’s filly cost £35,000 as a yearling. Her dam raced without success as a 2yo but went on to win over 1m 2f and that’s no surprise given her sire was Galileo. This filly will derive most of her speed from her sire Royal Applause and Jim Crowley is an interesting booking on debut so she deserves a second look in the betting on racecourse debut.
SENSORY – Comes with an expensive price tag of 170,000GNS and John Gosden’s daughter of Dream Ahead hasn’t quite matched up to expectations of late. She ran a fair race on debut at Kempton in May but she didn’t follow that up next time out at Doncaster over an extended 6 furlongs. She’s dropped back in trip today and the blinkers are applied for the first time. Impossible to rule out for this yard but others have better form in the book.
SUPERSYMMETRY – The Tom Dascombe stable do well with their 2yo’s and their daughter of Kyllachy ran a nice race on debut at Haydock just nine days ago. She was ridden from behind that day but stayed on nicely enough on Soft ground and she should appreciate this faster surface today. She’s likely to improve a bundle from her initial run and she’s one to watch closely in the betting today with much more to come.
