This is a Class 2 handicap raced over 1m 6f, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: This is a tricky handicap and the vote goes to LANGLAUF. Rod Millman has got a good tune out of her this year and she faces a 3lb rise in the weights today following a success last time out. She can go in again today for a yard in hot form. Elysian Fields can do the best of the rest although she has looked better on the turf and has another rise in the weights to contend with.
1 ELYSIAN FIELDS – Ran with credit in a Listed contest last time out at Goodwood. She finished second of eight, beaten 5 lengths by an easy winner and she will appreciate a return to weaker company today although she has been handed a 3lb rise in the weights which leaves her on a career high mark. She will be fine on this surface although she has looked better on turf to date. Must enter calculations.
2 CLIFF FACE – Ran a fine race when stepped up to Listed company on her final start of last season and that was surprising having done most of her racing in much weaker company. She returns to action today off a 210-day break and she steps up in trip again which should suit having shown plenty of stamina over 1m 4f to date. She has a little to prove today off a 14lb higher mark and may be best watched.
3 GRACELAND – A model of consistency having ranged between a mark of 81 and 84 since June 2015 but she’s shown progression of late which sees her race off a 5lb higher mark today. That follows a good third at York last time out and she’s shown clear improvement for the step up to 2 miles so the drop back in trip is a small concern although she gets a useful 5lb claim from Lulu Stanford. The yard has a 15% strike rate at present and she enters calculations in this.
4 JELLY MONGER – Steps up in grade today having just been touched off over 1m 4f at Goodwood last time out. This step up in trip is a positive move having won over further over hurdles and the booking of Silvestre De Sousa catches the eye although the yard has been quiet of late. A mark of 86 will make life tougher and she has only won once on the flat so others are more appealing in this.
5 LANGLAUF – Has been in good heart since arriving at the Rod Millman yard having won twice this year. She races off a career high mark of 82 today following a 3lb rise for a neck success last time out and she’s another to be stepped up in trip today with David Egan in the saddle. There looks to be more to come from this daughter of Raven’s Pass and the yard have been in flying form of late with a 20% strike rate in the past fortnight.
6 NOTICE – Lightly-raced daughter of New Approach and she makes her seventh career start today. She should improve for her seasonal reappearance at Goodwood last time out and the step up in trip will help although she’s up another 4lbs in the weights. Aaron Jones negates 3lbs of that today and there’s more to come from this filly. One to watch closely in the betting for a yard operating at a 19% strike rate at present.
7 PERFECT SUMMER – Ian Williams steps his filly right up in grade today following a good win at Windsor last time out. That came in a small four-runner contest and far more is required today now she’s up 5lbs in the weights and she has to race from 3lbs out of the handicap in this. She has form over much further so the trip is of no concern although she’s far more exposed than many of her rivals and others make more appeal today.
