This is a Class 2 handicap over a mile, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: This is an interesting little handicap and it looks wise to stick with the front of the market. SPATIAL found a Group 1 too hot on her final start of last season but that’s the regard connections hold this filly in and she should be well up to a mark of 96 in this handicap. Amabilis is the obvious danger on her second place effort to Rhododendron last season but she needs to show she can improve again this year and can follow the selection home.
1 SPATIAL – Beat a smart sort in a Newmarket maiden last summer and she found things happening far too quickly for her in the Dubai Fillies’ Mile on her final start of last season. This looks like a suitable place to start her 3yo campaign and a mark of 96 looks fair on what she has achieved to date. She is a classy filly and the stable are flying at present (29% strike rate in the past fortnight) and she’ll be dangerous here.
2 NORMANDIE LADY – Has been raised 6lbs in the handicap following a useful win in a Class 3 Nottingham handicap in early May. She won with ease that day to score by 3 3/4 lengths and whilst this is much tougher, she looks to be on a fair mark, albeit worse off than she should be with a few rivals on today’s terms. Sammy Jo Bell claims a valuable 3lbs and she shouldn’t be far away although she’s exposed now.
3 TEGARA – Finished last of 9, beaten 35 lengths at Ascot 19 days ago in a similar contest to todays. That was slightly stronger than this but she’ll need much more improvement to score on today’s terms given she has a weight-for-age penalty as one of two 4yo’s in this field. David Simcock has been in average form of late and she’s likely to be the outsider of the five in the betting. Others make more appeal.
4 AMABILIS – A smart filly for the Ralph Beckett yard and her second placed effort behind Rhododendron stands her out as a good sort in this. She couldn’t quite follow up that promise towards the latter half of last season although she was fifth of 16 in a Class 2 Newmarket handicap and she’s well-treated on today’s terms with a weight-for-age allowance. She will be dangerous here now stepped up in trip if she’s fit off a break.
5 ILLAUNMORE – Was only beaten 2 lengths by a nice sort in Son Of The Stars over C&D back in April and it was slightly disappointing that she couldn’t follow up that effort in a Class 3 handicap last time out. She looks high enough in the weights off a mark of 82 and it’s no surprise to see a 7lb claimer utilised here and whilst that will aid her chances, she looks up against it with some nice sorts in the field.
