7.30pm Perth Tips & Betting Preview 01/08/2017

An interesting contest with each and every one of the runners finishing in the first four home last time out. Nine renewals have seen one joint favourite and other winners at odds up to 18/1 so read on for a full race preview and to see who we think will win the 7.30pm at Perth tonight.

IN SUMMARY: If RUSSIAN REGENT can repeat his third last time out he will take all the beating here having been sent over from Ireland by Gordon Elliott and with the excellent Jamie Codd in the saddle. Sonneofpresenting looks the obvious danger and could be the one for the forecast.

1 HEIST – Two wins from three runs so far this season, both over this three mile trip with one each at Ffos Las and Hexham. He has been put up a big nine pounds for his five length defeat of Presenting Junior last time and that may well be enough to stop him here for a stable without a runner let alone a winner in the last two weeks.

2 CREEVYTENNANT – Took a course and distance Hunter Chase in May before finding the trip too short and the opposition too hot at Market Rasen last time out when third to Earthmoves, nine and three quarter lengths adrift of the winner. Dropped a pound for that he has a chance in theory but this does look tougher than his recent engagements and others appeal a bit more at these weights.

3 RUSSIAN REGENT – Ten pounds better off with Kilbree Kid for a little less than ten lengths and expected to turn that form around today. Should be at his peak now after a return over hurdles at Downpatrick followed by the aforementioned third which may well have been needed at the age of thirteen. Stable are in good form with five winners from their last thirty-three runners (15%) and looks on target for a big run here.

4 SONNEOFPRESENTING – The winner of both his races this season following on from taking his final race last season, and seems to get on really well with David Bass. Up in trip today having failed to win beyond two miles five furlongs which adds a question mark, as does an added five pounds here and with trainer Kim Bailey saying after his last win at Worcester that Sonneofpresenting won nicely, he will step up in trip and there is a nice race to be won early in the season” that this may well be the target, and a big race seems assured though perhaps not a winning one.

5 KILBREE KID – Tom George trains the ten-year-old who won his sixth race over fences and ninth overall last time out here over course and distance when beating Always On The Run by three and three quarter lengths. Upped in the weights by five pounds he won’t find this as easy at these weights, but wherever Russian Regent finishes, he is entitled to finish very close to that rival. The yard have a one from three record recently (33%) and he ought to place at the very least.

6 BON CHIC – Now an eight-year-old the son of Presenting last won in June 2016 when trained by Dan Skelton, but has since moved to James Moffatt and has raced five times for his new connections with a third at Cartmel last time out the best run yet. He ran on strongly over two miles five that day and ought to be a lot happier back at this trip, and as he has won off three pounds higher he has to be considered here as an each way alternative.

7 BAILEYS CONCERTO – Now a veteran at the age of eleven the Dianne Sayer trained gelding has finished fourth in his last three races including last time out her over course and distance. Beaten eighteen lengths that day he clearly has a lot to find to get competitive here and although dropped to a winning mark it does look as if old age may be catching up with him now.

8 TICKENWOLF – Bottom weight for the Mickey Hammond trained seven-year-old who is the joint youngest horse in this contest. Last time out he finished a nine and a quarter length fourth to top weight Heist who he meets on thirteen pounds better terms here which in theory could well turn that form around, and if there is a dark horse who could surprise, then the son of Tikkanen could be the one this evening.
