7.15pm Wolverhamtpon Tips & Betting Preview 14/03/2017

This is an open maiden fillies’ stakes over just shy of 6 furlongs, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: The Hugo Palmer trained La Gaupita has just about the best form in this but her last run was really disappointing and ROYAL REQUEST is worth chancing on her racecourse debut. She’s related to a winner over this distance and her trainer excels at this course and she could turn out to be a relatively useful type. Any money for Tooty Fruitti would be significant.

1 ALLEN’S FOLLY – Has placed just once in 10 starts to date and looks an extremely backwards type. Connections have tried her in a mix of handicaps and maidens but she’s not showing any improvement in either code and the handicapper has handed her an official rating of 45. She has to give a stone away to her rivals today due to the weight-for-age allowance and is impossible to recommend on form to date.

2 ATLANTA BELLE – Has shown some ability in four starts to date and was only beaten 3/4 of a length at Kempton back in September over today’s trip. She was a tad disappointing on her seasonal return in January when sent off a well-backed 3/1 shot but that was her first run for a while and she may come on again for that experience. She can’t be written off here although a couple of others make more appeal. Handicapper has given her an official rating of 70.

3 CAPTAIN SEDGWICK – Trainer has an extremely bad record here (1 winner from 53 attempts, 2% strike rate) and that looks unlikely to be bettered here. She’s been sent off 100/1, 200/1 and 50/1 although her last run showed a little bit of promise over 6 furlongs at Lingfield in a similar contest to this. However, this race looks a little bit stronger and she may be better for a switch to handicaps later down the line.

4 LA GAUPITA – Has hit the crossbar twice in her four race career with two seconds against fairly decent opponents. Her last run at Kempton was very disappointing and she was beaten 23 lengths which makes her a slightly unknown prospect now making her first start since that run. The drop back in trip to just under 6 furlongs is interesting given her best form is over 7 but she has to be respected with some of the best form in the race and her trainer has an excellent strike rate here (28%, £21.15 profit to level stakes).

5 MAGIC APPROACH – Was picked up for a very cheap 2,000GNS as a yearling and was green on debut at Newcastle. She drops back in trip here having raced over a mile last time out but this looks a bit easier and she could be dangerous now making her second start for David Simcock. She has only had 11 days to recover but she should know a lot more about her task and the market could be very interesting with Jamie Spencer aboard today.

6 MIA WALLACE – Bought for 11,000 Euros as a yearling and is an interesting addition to the David O’Meara stable. She looked a little bit short of pace at Newcastle last time out over the minimum trip although she travelled nicely into the race and will be a lot better for that experience here with a month off the track. The step up in trip should suit and Shelley Birkett claims 3lbs which gives her mount a little edge against her opponents here. Yard is in good form with 2 winners in the last 10 days and she should go well here, respected.

7 PRECIOUS EQUITY – Beaten out of sight on two occasions last year and returns here off a 118-day break. Her trainer has tried her over 6 furlongs and a mile and she was sent off at big prices on each start and it’s hard to imagine she’ll be fighting out the finish here. She may have had one or two problems and her trainers record is of particular concern without a winner here in 14 attempts and without a runner in the past fortnight. Best watched today.

8 ROYAL REQUEST – Yard have a decent record here (19% strike rate from 254 runners) and their runner is an interesting type in this. She’s by Royal Applause and is related to a winner over 6 furlongs so she could turn out to be a little bit better than these with time. It’s hard to get a gauge on what she’s likely to do on debut but if she handles the experience well, she could be a real danger. Luke Morris is booked (16% strike rate last 14 days) and is respected here. The betting should provide vital clues.

9 TOOTY FRUITTI – Another racecourse debutante in this and another interesting prospect. She’s a half-sister to Nidnod who has a rather uninspiring career record of 1 win from 28 starts but she was covered by a decent type and she can’t be completely ruled out here. John Egan is a positive booking (3 winners in the past fortnight) and the yard are 1 win from 1 runner in the last 14 days. She may just need this run but is another to keep a close eye on in the betting for a decent enough stable.
