A field of six go to post for this middle distance handicap at Brighton on Tuesday evening, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: Arriving here on the hat-trick, WAPPING is only two pounds higher than when making all over course and distance on his latest start. He remains unexposed at this trip for David Lanigan and with Harry Bentley taking over the ride, it’s hard to see him not winning this as he still looks very much well treated off his current mark. His main danger will be New World Power, who was a runner up over this distance on his latest start and he remains on the same mark for today’s run.
1 WAPPING – Won over course and distance on his latest start for David Lanigan and he is only two pounds higher for that neck victory today. He bids for the hat-trick in this and that should be on the cards if he turns up in the same form again, with Harry Bentley taking over the ride which is an obvious plus. Ground conditions are perfect for him and he is unexposed at this trip, so a big run looks on the cards.
2 CAPE DISCOVERY – Now one pound lower than his last winning mark, but that came back in May 2016 and he’s been mainly disappointing since. He showed some resurgence when fourth at Windsor in April but went straight back to his antics when a tailed off last at Newmarket in May, with the soft ground perhaps and excuse. Nevertheless, he’s far from a solid option and others make far greater appeal.
3 GENERAL HAZARD – Won four times over the winter/spring on the all weather for Archie Watson but he has been disappointing the last twice, including back on turf. He was never sighted in the Cumberland Plate on his latest start at Carlisle and it’s hard to know whether he’ll bounce straight back, as he’s never won on turf previously. Edward Greatrex takes off three pounds which is helpful but he looks set for a very minor role.
4 NEW WORLD POWER – Best effort yet at the fifth attempt when a close second at Thirsk in a 1m 4f handicap behind a useful sort and he remains on the same mark. He remains unexposed for David Simcock and further progress looks likely to be forthcoming, with Oisin Murphy taking the ride which is a big plus. Conditions will suit and he should be on the premises with further progression, considered.
5 PACHARANA – Won on her penultimate start at Lingfield when showing a good resolve to muscle clear in the closing stages and she’s only two pounds higher here. She found 0-95 company tough on her latest start, but this is undoubtedly easier and Luke Morris takes over the ride for in form Luca Cumani. Conditions will suit and she should be in the hunt, though she likely needs a stronger pace to show her best, which isn’t guaranteed.
6 HEPPLEWHITE – Only one win from seventeen starts which doesn’t instil much confidence and although he’s very capable at this level on his day, he’s likely to fall short once again off this mark. He finished second off this mark on his latest start at Lingfield, but was beaten around five lengths and he was soundly beaten the start before at Kempton. Others are far more likely on this occasion.
