7.10pm Wolverhampton tips for Tuesday’s race. A six-furlong handicap with twelve runners in the absence of Miss Geronimo. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis.
IN SUMMARY: In a race that may not take too much winning it looks well worth taking a chance on LOTARA (Each Way) here as he ran on well over five furlongs last time out and may do better upped to this trip, off a weight he can clearly win from when at the peak of his powers.
1 STORM LIGHTNING – A course winner over five furlongs back in 2013 but that was from nine starts (and on a different surface) and was perhaps too long ago to be taken at face value. No wins in his last five starts stretching back to Brighton in August last year and although slipping down the ratings over time he carries the same mark this evening as when finishing an eight-length sixth at Kempton last month and that form leaves him with a lot to find.
2 MR MICHAEL – One win from twenty-one starts tells its own story but he comes over from Ireland for a reason and could be of some interest. He was down to run at Redcar yesterday as well so this may well come too soon for him regardless though he was a good fourth at Navan on much softer ground last time out and may not be as effective on the Tapeta here.
3 FANTASY JUSTIFIER – His first run here at Wolverhampton on this surface which has to be a question mark and he does still seem a little high in the ratings. He did finish a good second in similar class at Nottingham in August off of this rating which followed a third at Lingfield on turf and if can reproduce those instead of his eight and a quarter length fifth at Bath last time out, then he could well mount a challenge.
4 TIGSERIN – Pat Cosgrave rides for trainer Giles Bravery here on the son of Approve who last won way back in April 2016, a run of fifteen losses. Although dropping down the weights he has been beaten over eight lengths in his last four starts with a seven and a half-length fifth of twelve at Kempton last time out off three pounds higher and he will need to add a lot to that to get involved in the finish today.
5 MONARCH MAID – Jockey William Cox takes a very useful seven pounds off the back of the Peter Hiatt trained six-year-old and that can only help her chances at these weights. The yard are in good form with two winners from just the four runners in the last two weeks which is a positive, while her young jockey has two wins from thirteen rides (15%) which is solid for an apprentice, and if she can repeat her July fourth at Leicester off six pounds higher she would have an excellent each way chance tonight.
6 ZENOVIA – First-time cheekpieces will need to liven up Archie Watson’s filly who has her first run at this trip having been campaigned over a mile or further when trained by David Simcock, and seven furlongs in both races for her new trainer. Still a maiden after six starts and weakened in the final furlong at Newcastle last time out, she may well bowl along near the front here and could run a lot better if she has the pace to lay up with the speedier sorts early in the contest.
7 TASAABOQ – A trio of course and distance wins suggest Phil McEntee’s gelding likes it around here but he has raced here thirteen times to put that in to perspective. He seems sure to be near to the head of the market after a good second to Bingo George on the slower Southwell surface last time out and runs off the same rating here but whether is any value for a stable with zero winners from their last eight runners is a moot point.
8 LOTARA – Trainer Jim Goldie added a visor last time out tas the daughter of Monsieur Bond finished a respectable four and a quarter length fifth at Newcastle over the five furlongs. His only win from fifteen starts was over that course and distance in September last year but he was running on nicely that day and is well worth another try at the sixth furlong here.
9 MISTRY – First time cheekpieces may help the daughter of Mullionmileanhour focus that little bit more, and she wasn’t beaten that far when a two and a half-length fifth to Mighty Zip at Chelmsford over five furlongs last time out when keeping on at the one pace. Upped in trip she may do better now, but she is a maiden after eight starts and will need a career best to win this evening regardless of the opposition.
10 GOADBY – Races off a lowly rating of 46 this evening despite having won off of 57 last June at Nottingham over this trip so well in here if he can be cajoled back to her best by trainer John Holt and jockey Patrick Mathers. Without a win in sixteen starts now she has gone off the boil recently and only finished sixth in a lowly Class Seven at Chelmsford last time out and her supports will have to hope she can somehow bounce back, which seems unlikely carrying a pound more than her allotted handicap mark
11 MULTI QUEST – Three wins from fifty-two starts now but an unlucky thirteen without a victory now and hard to make a strong case for after finishing an eight and a quarter length sixth of ten at Windsor earlier in the month. She did win on the Kempton polytrack off six pounds higher in January so cannot be easily dismissed, but she has raced seven times here without success and needs to find more to win her fourth race tonight from one pound out of the handicap.
12 TALLY’S SONG – The Grace Harris trained mare is another carrying a pound more than her rating warrants and she is still a maiden after twenty-six starts, two of them here. Beaten thirteen and a half lengths at Bath on the turf earlier this month she is hard to make a sensible case for and ought to be an “also ran” for a stable currently struggling for winners.
