7.10pm Chelmsford Tips & Betting Preview 21/06/2017

This is a Class 2 handicap raced over 5f, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: This is a good quality sprint handicap and the vote goes to A MOMENTOFMADNESS. Charlie Hills’ runner ran an almighty race to finish fourth in an ultra-competitive handicap last time out and he can score today off an unchanged mark for a yard and jockey in form. Exceed The Limit finished behind him that day and can also go well and follow the selection home off a 2lb lower mark.

1 ROYAL BIRTH – Ran a mighty race to win a Listed contest at Lingfield back in February but he hasn’t been as good since with two moderate efforts in a Class 2 handicap and a Group 3. He can be forgiven for struggling last time out against much better opposition than this and he will be suited to a return to the All-Weather and easier company today. One to consider although this is a high enough mark.

2 ENCORE D’OR – Classy sprinter and his form behind Kimberella earlier this season is working out well. He’s 3lbs higher than his last winning mark which came over 5 furlongs at Lingfield and he’s been given a nice draw in stall 1 today. He’s a C&D winner and ran with credit in in the Group 2 Temple Stakes last time out so connections will be hopeful he can run a big race today in more favourable conditions.

3 JORDAN SPORT – Ran a fine race at Windsor last time out in a weaker grade than this. He’s down a pound today and will appreciate the switch back to the All-Weather although he doesn’t look to have the form of some of his opponents and the drop back in trip is of slight concern having performed best over 6 furlongs and further in his career to date. Opposed in this.

4 A MOMENTOFMADNESS – Ran a mighty race in an Epsom handicap last time out to finish fourth of 19, beaten a length by some battle hardened handicappers. The form has worked out well and the booking of Silvestre De Sousa is an obvious plus (30% strike rate in the past fortnight) so there are positive signs now dropping into an easier race off the same mark. He’s one of the pace angles and will look to take them along from stall 7.

5 HUNTSMAN CLOSE – Finished 2 1/4 lengths behind Encore D’Or when the pair met over C&D last November and he is much better off at the weights today. His form has been moderate of late although he should improve for his recent run at Nottingham when finishing a modest sixth of nine. He remains on the same mark today and he looks slightly exposed against some better weighted rivals in this.

6 EXCEED THE LIMIT – Finished behind A Momentofmadness when the pair met at Epsom last time out and he’s been dropped 2lbs today which will certainly help. He’s without a win since November 2015 and both of his career successes came out in France and Robert Cowell is yet to get a win out of him in seven starts. He shouldn’t be too far away off this mark and he’s still a 4yo so there may be more to come.

7 BOSHAM – Mick Easterby has an excellent 25% strike rate at Chelmsford but that record may not be bettered by his runner today. He’s a C&D winner and he is below his last winning mark on the All-Weather but he’s been comfortably held on the sand throughout much of the winter in weaker company than this and his turf form may be slightly misleading having exploited a far lower mark. Others make more appeal in this.

8 DYNAMO WALT – Another C&D winner who steps up in grade today following a fair fourth last time out. That came after a win in Class 4 company in early May and he’s 3lbs higher than that mark in this and he’s going to need to find more improvement to get the better of some classier rivals in this. He’s only a pound higher than his last win but stall 9 makes life difficult and he rates as a risky prospect.

9 BROTHER TIGER – Races from 2lbs out of the handicap today and he takes a big step up in grade having raced in Class 4 company on his last two starts. He took advantage of a falling mark to score off 77 back in early May but he couldn’t follow that up off a 4lb higher mark and he’s likely to struggle again today. Silvestre De Sousa has got off him to ride A Momentofmadness. The yard have a 7% strike rate at Chelmsford from 28 runners.
