This is a Class 5 handicap raced over 1m 2f, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: The handicapper has raised SWILLY SUNSET another 9lbs for his latest success but that may not stop him completing a four-timer. The step up in trip to 1m 2f could spark even more improvement and with proven form on the ground, he should take all the beating. Ghinia would be his main danger off her current mark although she looks to need faster ground than this.
1 SWILLY SUNSET – Goes in search of his fourth win in a row today having completed a hat-trick of wins at Chepstow last time out. He’s been raised 9lbs following that success which puts him on a clear career high mark today. He’s won on Soft previously which is a major positive and Silvestre De Sousa keeps the partnership intact again today. Should go close although he’s untried at 1m 2f.
2 OUTBACK BLUE – Ran with some credit in a Chester handicap on Sunday and this represents a drop in grade. He will go on the ground and has shown himself to be in good form for this level so he should go well with Katherine Glenister back in the saddle claiming 7lbs off his back. He may be vulnerable for win purposes though for a yard operating at just a 6% strike rate at present.
3 GHINIA – Pam Sly’s mare is definitely well-handicapped having gone close off higher marks than this and she’s just bumped into a couple too good on a few occasions. She’s back down in grade today and she should go well although she prefers faster ground and is without a win from three attempts on Soft. She will need the ground to dry out to be in with a chance today.
4 HARD TOFFEE – Yet to win on ground worse than Good which is a concern but he’s a pound below his last winning mark and Jim Crowley was booked to ride him that day. He’s back on board today but his mount will need to bounce back from a disappointing 15-length defeat at Lingfield last time out on Good to Soft ground. The market should guide best.
5 THE GAY CAVALIER – Was narrowly denied his second success of the season at Sandown last month when beaten a short head over 1m 2f on Good to Soft. He couldn’t follow up that effort at Epsom last time out but he was well-supported that day and he may bounce back to form here although he has been raised a pound which will make life slightly more difficult for this exposed handicapper.
6 OURMULLION – Was well-supported when he won a Lingfield handicap earlier this season but he has failed to win since on the All-Weather with a couple of placed efforts off marks in the low 70’s. He is well-treated in this with a 3yo allowance but he needs to do more on his first turf start since last season and he’s up in trip to 1m 2f for the first time today.
7 BROUGHTONS STORY – Another 3yo who is well-treated on these terms with his allowance against older rivals. He’s yet to break his maiden from 8 starts but he began to show progressive form on the All-Weather in the winter, beaten just 2 lengths on his final start when sent off the 15/8 favourite. He could resume that progress today on turf although his absence from the track does raise some questions. The market should guide best.
