IN SUMMARY: ROSIE ROYALE made a promising seasonal reappearance at Chepstow 12 days ago, and is our tip to build on that and take victory today. She is a dual course and distance winner and clearly thrives here. Notice could be the main danger if continuing to progress from last season despite a lengthy break off the track.
Notice – Off the track for 244 days, but has won his last two starts and progressed through last season. Still unexposed, she drops down in class from his last time out Yarmouth dead heat win and George Buckell takes off 5lb to counter the rise in weights. Lightly raced, she should run well but will come on for this run.
Star Of Lombardy – She has been running consistently without winning on her last three starts following back to back wins two months ago, and she has previous course form. The step up in trip should suit and she should be involved in the finish, but Franny Norton has a poor record at this track and there are others in the field who look better handicapped.
Admiral’s Sunset – A beaten odds on favourite last time out, she is still a maiden after six starts despite finishing second four times. Beaten by some good horses, she is versatile ground wise but is vulnerable off a mark of 74 on seasonal reappearance.
Rosie Royale – Our tip for the race, she is a dual course and distance winner (on Good to Soft and Firm at the end of last summer), with the latter win coming off a mark just 5lb lower than today’s. She ran well on seasonal reappearance and previous form suggests he will improve for the run. George Wood takes off a handy five pounds again and has an excellent record at this track.
Oratorio’s Joy – This seven year old has won 8 of her 57 starts under rules, and ran well on stable debut for Daniel Mark Loughnane two weeks ago over 2 miles. She clearly likes this course, with a win, a second and three third place finishes in just nine starts, but she is more exposed than a number of her rivals and was inconsistent through the winter.
Iona Island – She finally got off the mark on the 12 time of asking two starts ago, with the change to Peter Hiatt appearing to pay off, before running well over 2 miles at Kempton last time out. Jockey Fran Berry has a solid record here but she is five pounds above her winning mark and appears handicap to her best on what she has shown so far.
Skylark Lady – Pulled up when last seen in a handicap hurdle, but she has finished 3rd and 5th at this course on her two starts so far off similar marks and is still unexposed on the turf. Her two flat wins have come in weaker races than this and her recent form is off putting, with the handicapper slow to relent.
Wassall – The likely outsider of the field in the ring, she has recorded just one finish better than eight – beaten 7 lengths here over a mile off a mark of 47. Now off 42, she steps up in trip by a furlong but she is 13 pounds out the handicap and certain to struggle again today.
