6.15pm Haydock Tips & Betting Preview 11/08/2017

This is a Class 4 handicap raced over 1m 6f, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: There are a few that could be well-treated in this and ARAMIST is one of those. He ran off much higher marks than this in the not too distant past and the application of cheekpieces could spark a revival in his form now he drops in grade. Support for Murgan would be of interest given he’s on a fair mark although he’s struggled with injuries which have kept him off the track.

1 MURGAN – Lightly-raced son of Galileo who has obviously had some issues having raced just twice since October 2015. He ran a respectable race off a long break at Kempton last time out to finish fifth, beaten 4 3/4 lengths and better is expected today off a 3lb lower mark (82). Oisin Murphy remains in the saddle and he should improve so he’s dangerous to write off.

2 MAWAQEET – Finished last of nine, beaten 31 lengths on his first run of the season off a year break. He’s dropped down in trip and lowered in grade today which will obviously help off a 3lb lower mark but his seasonal reappearance was particularly poor and it’s tricky to know what to expect from him. He is 4lbs below his last winning mark though so market support would be of interest.

3 BERTIE MOON – 5lbs lower than his last winning mark following some poor performances this season. He was beaten 12 lengths in Soft ground at Doncaster back in June and he’s been given a small break following that run. The ground shouldn’t have been an issue that day having won on Soft previously and it may just be the case that he’s on the downgrade. Best watched in this.

4 KASHMIRI SUNSET – Did well to win on his seasonal reappearance at Ayr last month, winning by a neck off a mark of 75. He’s only been raised a pound for that success and he’s stepped up in grade today which will certainly ask much tougher questions of him. However, he remains well-weighted having won off higher than this in the past and Paul Hanagan is a positive booking. Respected.

5 TAKBEER – Another runner to arrive here on the back of a success. Nikki Evans’ charge won a Newbury handicap by half a length last time out over shorter which came as a surprise having been sent off at 50/1. He’s 3lbs higher today and raised in grade which will make life significantly tougher and he may not provide much in the way of value today. Best watched.

6 HIGH ON LIGHT – Has shown some excellent consistency this season with four placed efforts and a win from 6 starts. She was only beaten 1 1/4 lengths last time out at Newcastle and this is a similar contest albeit back on turf. A mark of 73 remains fair although she is technically worse off due to losing a 5lb claimer. Should go well in conditions that should suit and she commands respect.

7 ARAMIST – Has been dropped 4lbs for a poor run at York last time out, finishing a well-beaten fourth of 7. That was a tougher race than this and he was rated significantly higher in the not too distant past so it may too early to rule him out. Cheekpieces are applied for the first time today which makes him of interest and conditions should suit so he deserves plenty of respect. Market support would be significant.

8 TORREMAR – Kevin Ryan’s yard has been flying of late with a 23% strike rate in the past fortnight and he fields a son of Excellent Art in this. He’s only won once from 17 starts which is off-putting and he remains 3lbs higher than that mark which leaves him with plenty to do today. He was well-beaten in a weaker race than this last time out and is best watched today.
