5.50pm Newcastle Tips & Betting Preview 10/08/2017

This is a Class 6 handicap raced over 1m 2f, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: This field is full of exposed, regressive sorts and PINDARIC can progress past them all to come home in front. He showed promise in defeat last time out at Redcar and the switch to the All Weather with the application of cheekpieces can see him win this with the useful Connor Murtagh doing the steering. Lozah has only won once in her career but she looks weighted to go well in this weak field.

1 LOZAH – One win from 24 career starts which came over a mile at this track back in November of last year. She’s 2lbs higher than that mark today but is shaped as though the step up in trip would suit and she does get the assistance of a useful 3lb claimer so she races off a fair mark today. She’s a solid enough proposition in a weak field so commands respect.

2 SAKHALIN STAR – Just three wins from 66 career starts, the latest of those coming just two starts ago at Ffos Las over today’s trip when well supported. He races off a mark of 56 today which looks reasonable and he’s obviously knocking around a fair mark so he could go well again. However, this looks just as tough as his last start when comfortably beaten eight lengths.

3 SPIRIT OF THE VALE – Oliver Greenall has an incredible 55% strike rate at Newcastle and he fields a filly racing off a mark of 55 which is 4lbs higher than when she scored over C&D back in March. She remains on a workable rating, although her last run at Brighton was disappointing, finishing last of five. She should do better here now dropped back in grade and makes more appeal than many of her rivals here.

4 JUDICIOUS – Remains relatively lightly raced for a ten-year-old having missed plenty of racing a few years back and he’s shown mixed form this season. He did display some ability on his second start of the season at Beverley but he’s going to need to do more to come out on top today and others make more appeal.

5 GOOD TIME AHEAD – Did show some consistent form on the All Weather earlier this year, notching up three placed efforts and a win. He’s dropping back down to something of a workable mark and he’s 7lbs lower than when finishing second here back in March. His sole success did come in a maiden back in January though which doesn’t make for great reading.

6 PERMANENT – Ten race maiden who is well treated on these terms with a three-year-old allowance. He showed clear promise at Lingfield in early June when finishing second of 13 and that came off just a one pound lower mark. He wasn’t disgraced at Windsor either last time out, finishing fifth of 13 and he could progress again now switched to the All Weather. Respected today.

7 KERRY ICON – Has been raised a pound for a good second at Musselburgh last month over 1m 1f. That came as a bit of a surprise that day having run poorly in low grade handicaps previous to that and she was beaten 11 1/2 lengths off this mark over C&D back in June so much more is needed today. A useful 5lb claimer is booked to ride.

8 FERNGROVE – Makes his second start for Susan Corbett today following a 95 length defeat over hurdles at Worcester back in July when sent off the 100/1 outsider. He’s placed once in 12 starts which came off a mark of 52 at Catterick back in July 2015 and he would require a massive step forward today to get anywhere near to that form. He’s likely to need this run today and is best watched.

9 MOUNT CHEIRON – Did win a C&D handicap off a 4lb higher mark last summer and subsequently followed that up with a win off another 4lb higher mark (54) at Wolverhampton. He’s taken a while to drop down below that mark but this switch to the All Weather in conditions that suit could see a major improvement in form. He’s one to keep onside today.

10 SNAPPYDRESSER – Lightly raced four-year-old filly making her sixth career start today. She was beaten 18 1/2 lengths on stable debut at Redcar last month and she’s entitled to improve plenty for that run having most probably needed it off nearly a year’s absence. She has something to prove still off a mark of 46 and may be best watched, although market support would be of interest.

11 BIGBADBOY – Stepped up in trip to 1m 2f for the first time today following some less than impressive runs as a three-year-old. He’s entitled to improve for his first start of the season back in June, although he’s got little in hand at the weights and this yard are without a winner from 11 runners at the track. He can only be watched today.

12 INGLEBY ERIN – Another runner entitled to improve from her seasonal debut but she has little to talk about regarding form, having finished no closer than 11 lengths to any winner in eight starts. The step up in trip should suit, but she has a lot to do on form and others make much more appeal.

13 PINDARIC – Three-year-old son of Poet’s Choice that did show some promise at Redcar last month when beaten just 3 1/2 lengths. He is tried in first-time cheekpieces today which could spark some improvement and the useful Connor Murtagh remains in the saddle so there are reasons to be positive. He could improve past a fair few in this if he can take another step forward and he commands respect.

14 SHINE BABE SHINE – Makes her fifth start today following some incredibly poor performances in three maidens and a handicap. She’s down 3lbs in the weights today and she has a three-year-old allowance which will help. However, she has shown only a fraction of the form required here and others make greater appeal.
