This is a sprint over an extended 5 furlongs, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: Plenty with chances in this and a tentative vote goes to PUSHKIN MUSEUM who should continue in his good vein of form with a useful apprentice on-board and take this. Stall 4 is ideal and the yard have done well for this owner with recent winners. City Of Angkor Wat is one to look out for now switched to a faster surface and dropped back in trip whilst Tasaaboq is another to watch in the betting.
BURTONWOOD – 4lb higher than his last winning mark which came over 6 furlongs at Newcastle back in February. He showed himself to be on a workable mark when only beaten 3/4 of a length last time out off just 1lb lower. This is probably going to be slightly tougher than his last assignment off a career high mark but he can’t be ruled out, aged just 5-years-old. Yard have sent out one winner from their last 2 runners.
PUSHKIN MUSEUM – Has thrived this year for Patrick Morris with two wins from six starts off marks of 54 and 60. He’s been held off a mark of 66 twice since but there’s been plenty of money around for him and he should be thereabouts again kept over C&D. The yard have an 11% strike rate here and the useful Connor Murtagh claims a valuable 3lbs. Claims with a nice draw in stall 4.
SPACE WAR – Incredibly well-backed when winning over 6 furlongs back in February and he went close again over 6 furlongs at Chelmsford. He’s not been beaten far subsequently and there has been plenty of money around for him but he’s been held since and looks high enough in the handicap off a mark of 66. Now a 10-year-old and he’s not getting any younger so he’s vulnerable to a few improving sorts.
INSHAA – 17-race maiden and he’s gone close twice over 7 furlongs and a mile. A mark of 64 is certainly workable based on his overall form and he could strike in this sort of company but he needs things to fall perfectly for him and stall 11 makes life incredibly difficult today. Drops down in trip to 6 furlongs and others make more appeal for a yard without a winner in the last fortnight.
HEAD SPACE – Makes his 102nd appearance today and last won off a mark of 63 back in November of last year. He’s been comfortably held recently over 5 and 6 furlongs off 2lbs higher and stall 9 is another difficult draw for a horse that is thoroughly exposed. Yard have sent out one winner from their last 37 runners in the past fortnight and others make more appeal at today’s weights although he is now on his last winning mark.
TASAABOQ – Completed a double last month off marks of 47 and 50. He’s run with credit recently including over 6 furlongs and that came off just 1lb higher so he’s not without a chance. Yard are without a winner from their last 10 runners and he still looks high enough in the weights. 6 furlongs looks ideal and he’s worth a second look in the betting from an excellent draw in stall 1.
CITY OF ANGKOR WAT – Regressive profile of late with his last win coming off a mark of 70 last June. He’s fallen to today’s rating of 54 which puts him on a dangerous mark but he was well-beaten when last seen at Southwell, finishing eleventh of twelve, beaten 18 lengths. A return to 6 furlongs and a faster track will suit and he’s worth close attention in the betting with Katherine Glenister on board.
MR CHUCKLES – Extremely consistent this winter with six placed efforts from his last seven runners. He’s risen through the weights as a result and is up another 2lbs today for a 3/4 length defeat last time out over C&D. Yard are without a winner from their last 8 runners although they do have a decent 10% strike rate here and the useful David Egan is booked, having won similar contests at different tracks.
CLON ROCKET – Finished behind a couple of these last time out and has been beaten by sizeable distances since joining this yard. The stable are without a winner from 32 runners here and his regular rider is on board who is without a winner from 6 rides at Wolverhampton. 6 furlongs looks like the right trip but the cheekpieces are left off again and he’s tricky to fancy on form. Others are preferred.
CUBAN QUEEN – Has recorded one victory from 18 runs and has been up against it in similar company to this. She’s 2lbs wrong at the weights here and she’s been well-beaten in two weak Class 7 contests and her overall profile looks exposed. Yard have a 6% strike rate here from 93-runners and she’s hard to fancy on today’s terms. Avoided.
ALLEN’S FOLLY – 12-race maiden and she’s 5lbs wrong at the weights in this. She’s been sent off 100/1, 40/1, 125/1 and 28/1 on her last four starts and it would be a big surprise to see her win this. Needs an easier grade and weaker opposition to get involved and is impossible to make a case for. Avoided.
