This is a Class 5 maiden over a mile, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: ISABELLA ran a fine race on debut as a 2yo and this daughter of Galileo should have come on plenty following a winter break. She’ll be dangerous in this if she’s fit today and gets the vote today against White Rosa who could turn out to be a nice sort but hails from a yard that isn’t firing on all cylinders at present. Super Ruby would be of interest with market support.
INGLEBY ERIN – First run for Colin Teague today having been off the track since August last year. She failed to show much ability last year in seven starts having failed to place on any occasion and she was beaten by a double-digit distance on every start. She has to give 11lbs away to the field in this and it would be a major surprise to see this filly win. Easily opposed today.
BEST OF MY LOVE – Finished last of eight on her debut at Haydock which came in a relatively fair maiden over a mile on Good to Firm ground. She will have learnt plenty from that experience having been ridden from the back although she looked a tad outpaced and struggled to come into the race as connections would have liked. She may need this second run although market support would be significant with Silvestre De Sousa back in the saddle again.
CATSKILL – Wilf Storey’s filly has been beaten 15 and 29 lengths respectively on her last two starts and she’s stepped markedly up in trip today. Both of her efforts came over 5 furlongs and she was outpaced on both occasions so it’s no surprise to see her tackling this trip on her first turf start. She gets the assistance of Megan Nicholls who claims a valuable 5lbs but others make far more appeal here.
HARBOUR BELLE – Shaped with some promise at Carlisle on her sole start last year to finish sixth of twelve in a Novice Stakes over 6 furlongs. She was slightly disappointing on her seasonal reappearance at Redcar, finishing a remote eleventh of twelve although she should come on a lot for that now stepped up in trip again. She may do better in handicaps and is best watched today.
ISABELLA – Ran once as a 2yo last season which came in a Redcar maiden on Good to Soft ground. She was beaten 6 1/4 lengths that day but she managed to finish fourth and this daughter of Galileo will relish the step up in trip today. She’s likely to improve although she does lack a recent run but the stable have been in modest form of late and it would be no surprise to see her get involved in this.
LES PECHEURS – Beaten 20 lengths on her racecourse debut at Redcar last month and her SP of 100/1 tells its own tale. She’s stepped up in trip today from 6 furlongs to a mile which looks sensible but she is going to need more time based on that run and she’s one to watch with handicaps in mind later in the season. Danielle Mooney retains the ride and claims 7lbs from her back.
LOVE CANDY – 28,000 Euro filly and she’s by Canford Cliffs out of a mare that won once as a 2yo over 6 furlongs. Her profile is relatively pleasing and she could turn out to be a forward sort although she’s probably going to need her first run against some more experienced rivals. This trip looks ideal and she’s worth a second look in the betting given market support would be significant.
LYRIC HARMONY – Giles Bravery’s Teofilo filly looked to be crying out for a step up in trip last time out and she’s been handed that here. She stayed on nicely at Redcar late last month to finish fifth of twelve and that was a clear improvement on her first run which came in a fairly decent Class 4 Newmarket maiden. She will improve again and is of interest in this although the yard are without a winner from 6 runners at Thirsk.
MISS PATIENCE – Has run to a modest level in two starts to date with the latest of those coming at Wolverhampton over 6 furlongs in April. She was well-backed that day having been sent off 11/4 in the betting and that maiden may not turn out to be the worst bit of form in time. The step up in trip should be fine and she gets the assistance of the in form Graham Lee today (13% strike rate in the past fortnight).
POWERCELL – Finished sixth of eight on racecourse debut, beaten 9 lengths over 7 furlongs at Wetherby. She’s likely to need time, especially for a yard that rarely send out maiden winners and their 9% strike rate at Thirsk does little to inspire confidence for a horse that needs to improve a lot to take this. Others make more appeal today.
SUPER RUBY – Fairly green on debut at Beverley last month having been slowly into stride and caught for pace when asked to quicken. She was beaten a long way that day and whilst she’s likely to have learnt a lot from the experience, she’s also likely to need another run under her belt before striking. Market support would make her of interest but there are more likelier winners of this today.
WHITE ROSA – Hugo Palmer has a 38% strike rate at Thirsk and this is an interesting runner for the yard. She’s a 150,000GNS purchase out of a speedy mare that won twice as a 2yo over 6 furlongs including in a Group 3. She’s sired by Galileo so this trip and ground should be ideal and she should be getting involved here to justify her pedigree. Likely to be strong in the betting and she deserves plenty of respect on racecourse debut.
