This is a Class 6 handicap raced over 1m, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: This is an incredibly weak affair and it can go to PICK A LITTLE. He’s seeking his first win since 2015 but he’s slid down the weights to a workable mark and the drop in grade could see him home in front today. Buzz Lightyere continues to be well supported in his races but he looks weighted up to his best at present and World Record can do best of the rest.
PICK A LITTLE – C&D winner racing off a 3lb lower mark than his last rating following a comfortable 4 3/4 length defeat. He’s dropped in grade today following some less than impressive performances and he goes in search of his first win since July 2015. One of the likelier winners of this weak affair for a yard with a decent 18% strike rate at the track.
HOT MUSTARD – Just three wins from 43 career starts, the last of which came back in August 2015. He races off a mark of 61 today – 10lbs lower than his last winning mark – but he’s not produced many notable efforts of late suggesting a return to form is far from near. The cheekpieces are removed today and he’s one to watch in the betting market given support for him would be significant off what could be a kind mark.
RATTLE ON – Slightly less exposed than many of his rivals and he races off a one pound lower mark than his sole success which came in a Class 6 event off a mark of 61. He was only beaten half a length last time out at Lingfield, however the ground is much faster today and that may just go against him based on his profile. Would be another of interest with market support though.
LIVE DANGEROUSLY – Has displayed some good form for this level recently, including a short head second at Lingfield last time out. He was unlucky not to win that day having got going a shade too late and he’s without a win from 17 starts on Good to Firm ground which is a major negative. Others make more appeal in this based on the conditions.
WORLD RECORD – Something was amiss last time out at Yarmouth having finished last of nine, beaten 25 lengths. That run was too bad to be true having finished second on his previous start at Brighton and a mark of 58 should remain workable. He did score off a pound higher back in October 2015 and he has plenty of course form to his name so he’s worth consideration here for a yard with an excellent 28% strike rate at the track.
AYE AYE SKIPPER – Was well supported last time out and he was narrowly denied, finishing second beaten a short head. The handicapper has only raised him a pound for that effort which looks fair and he’s in good heart at present having won a Class 6 event at Bath in June. The ground should be ideal for him and Hector Crouch is a positive booking. Respected.
BUZZ LIGHTYERE – Has been sent off favourite on three of his five starts this season and he has run with credit in all his runs for this yard. He remains on a mark of 55 following a 3 3/4 length defeat last time out and he’s dropped back in trip to a mile which looks like a positive move. Likely to be plenty of support around for him again today, although he has won just once from 16 starts.
SHEER INTENSITY – One win from 27 career starts which came in a C&D handicap earlier this year off a mark of 51. She races off the same mark today and has the aid of a 5lb claimer which should help, although the yard have sent out just two winners from their last 37 runners. Others make a bit more appeal today but the step back down in trip is a positive move.
KATIE CANFORD – First start for Mark Hoad today having left John Bridger’s yard. She failed to win in 14 starts for that yard and she makes her first start since June last year which has to be a concern. A mark of 46 is more than fair, but she looked to be going backwards if anything last season so she’s best watched today following this long break.
PLAY THE BLUES – One win from 36 starts makes for grim reading and this ten-year-old mare makes her first start for Roger Ingram today. She’s been off the track since running in a Class 7 event at Kempton back in December and she needs to do much more to be involved today. She wasn’t beaten all that far off higher marks than this earlier last year, but that’s clutching at straws in all truth. Best watched.
HELLARIOUS – Lightly raced son of Hellvelyn making his seventh career start today. He’s run three times as a four-year-old and has been beaten no shorter than 6 1/4 lengths on each occasion. He finished last of eight, beaten 31 lengths last time out and he’s hard to make a case for other than that he should be able to improve at some stage.
ODDSOCKS – Tony Carroll has failed to send out a winner from his last 26 runners and that record is unlikely to be bettered by his runner in this. She’s a five-year-old mare who has failed to win in nine starts and was beaten 13 1/2 lengths last time out at Chepstow over 7 furlongs. The drop in trip and switch to faster ground could bring out more in her but, again, that’s clutching at straws slightly.
BACK TO LOVE – 11 race maiden who has failed to place once. She was beaten 16 lengths last time out at Brighton on good ground over a mile and there has been little to suggest that she’s going to improve any time soon. The yard are without a winner from 11 runners at the track and she’s best watched.
JUMP AROUND – Makes just her fifth career start today and her second for Ali Stronge. She was beaten 12 1/2 lengths last time out at Ffos Las but she can be forgiven for the run given it was the first for her yard and she should show more today. Joey Haynes is a positive booking so she’s worth a second look in the betting today, with more surely to come.
