This is a Class 2 maiden raced over 7 furlongs, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: It’s easy to understand why Magical is such a short price based on her breeding and form. However, she has to be taken on at prohibitive odds and MISS PARIS can outrun her odds based on her nice pedigree. She’s certain to want further than this in time but she could be quite forward and could get something to aim at today. She has an excellent each way chance and gets the vote.
ANN WITHOUT AN E – Related to some average sorts and his pedigree doesn’t jump off the page. The yard wouldn’t be running her in a decent maiden at Goodwood if she wasn’t well-regarded but others make more appeal on paper and on the limited form already achieved by her rivals in the race. Best watched today unless significant market support arrives for a yard operating at a 14% strike rate in the past fortnight.
MAGICAL – Gorgeously well-bred daughter of Galileo out of Halfway To Heaven. She’s a full-sister to Rhododendron and Flying The Flag and she ran a promising race on debut, finishing second over 6 furlongs at the Curragh. She will appreciate the slightly softer ground today and the longer trip of 7 furlongs will suit her down to the ground. She boasts the best form of those that have run in this field and she should take all the beating in this. Respected for a yard that boasts a 25% strike rate at Goodwood.
MISS PARIS – Half-sister to the smart Banzari, out of Bantu by Champs Elysees. She’s almost certainly going to want further than the 7 furlong trip on offer today based on her pedigree and the form of her relatives. The booking of Silvestre De Sousa is positive and she would be suited by a strong pace but this is a small field and that’s far from guaranteed. Could outrun her odds against a short price favourite.
RIPLEY – Second runner in this for Charlie Hills and she’s a 90,000 Euro yearling purchase by Declaration Of War. She’s out of a nice mare that won on her racecourse debut as a 3yo and she was pretty straightforward so she may be slightly ahead of her stablemate Miss Paris. However, she’s also crying out for further on pedigree and may also be best watched in this.
ROTHERHITHE – Cost a mere 3,500GNS as a yearling and she’s related to some decidedly average sorts. The mare hasn’t produced anything of note and this yard aren’t known for sending out racecourse debutante winners, let alone 2yo winners. She’s best watched today with a view to tackling a mile in the not too distant future.
ROULETTE – Once-raced filly who ran in a decent Newmarket maiden last month. She finished sixth in a 14-strong field, beaten just 2 3/4 lengths having started slowly before grinding out a finish. That was a promising debut from Michael Bell’s filly who hails from a yard that can get a 2yo ready so there’s plenty to like about her form as well as her nice pedigree. The yard are operating at a 20% strike rate at present and she’s a worthy contender of this.
TITCHY DIGITS – By Helmet out of a mare that has failed to produce a winner so far. She ran a moderate race at Newbury on debut last month over 6 furlongs, finishing midfield (8th of 15) and she will be better suited by this longer trip. She started 150/1 that day and she’s unlikely to be well-supported today on the back of what she has shown so far. Best watched.
ZILARA – Ralph Beckett can ready a 2yo but his runner is yet another entry that will want further than 7 furlongs. She’s by Big Bad Bob whose progeny have generally wanted further although her dam did win this maiden back in 2007 on just her second career start at 33/1. She should show plenty of potential in time but she may just need this run on what is her first day at school.
